The 4th graders got creative with Book Spine Poetry! 📚✨

Students stacked books together to create silly, thoughtful, and imaginative poems just by using the titles on the spines. It was so fun seeing their creativity come to life and watching them think outside the box (or bookshelf 😉).

❄️🤖 Our 1st graders became little programmers over the last few months while building snowmen with algorithms!

We learned how coders use functions to repeat steps over and over again. For example, our “Build the Base” function told us exactly what pieces we needed every time we built the base of the snowman.: Body, Head, Feet, Arms

Then we explored conditionals using if/else statements:
➡️ If you chose green earmuffs, add a blue scarf.
➡️ Else, add a red scarf!

To finish, partners worked together to “code” their robots by following algorithms another group had written. They had to travel to all the correct snowman pieces and carefully follow the directions step-by-step.

It was amazing to see teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity all mixed into one snowy coding adventure! ☃️💻✨

Big Thanks to our older kids to coming in and helping our lower elementary kids.

April is Poetry Month! 📚✨

Our kindergarteners had so much fun combining technology and literacy as they explored CVC word families and rhyming patterns. Using coding skills, they programmed our little robot to travel to the word that rhymed with the one I gave them—lots of thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork involved! 🤖

Along the way, they practiced listening for beginning, middle, and ending sounds, recognizing word patterns, and building early phonics skills. They also worked on perseverance as they debugged their code and tried again.

All of this hands-on learning is helping us build a strong foundation as we get ready to write our own rhyming couplets. I’m so proud of their hard work and creativity! 💛
