On Christmas Day the Phillips family lost a lot of their belongings to a fire in their home in Centerton. Since their loss, the community outpouring of assistance has been incredible. Mr. & Mrs. Phillips want to thank everyone for their wonderful generosity. Pictured here is our President, Scott Benko, presenting Mrs. Phillips with a $1000 check courtesy of Ms. McGinnis, and Ms. Smith from Franklin. Also pictured is EMT Angela VanMatre presenting a laptop computer to Mrs. Phillips, courtesy of the Hessler family. The Phillips family homeschools their children and having a computer is a must. We will have a few more pictures to share in the future.

On behalf of the Phillips Family, the members of the Brooklyn Fire Department would like to thank the community members who have stepped up and donated to Mr. and Mrs. Phillips and their 4 young children who lost a majority of their stuff when their home caught fire on Christmas Day in Centerton. Thus far we have collected over $700 in cash and gift cards and several donations of clothing. This community is so supportive.

The family is still accepting donations if you want to help in any way. Clothing sizes will be posted in the comments below. Clothing or financial support can be dropped off at the firehouse in downtown Brooklyn between the hours of 8-4, Monday through Friday.

The family is incredibly grateful for everything and everyone who have provided support. They shared these pictures of three of their children resting comfortably with some of the items that were donated thus far.

We wanted to send out a special thanks to EMT Angela VanMatre who has done an amazing job in coordinating all the donations and making sure the family gets everything in a timely manner.

Earlier today, a family lost a majority of what they own due to a fire in their home. No one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters from our department, assisted by Mooresville Fire Department, Brown Twp Fire-Rescue, City of Martinsville Fire Department, Gregg Township Fire Department, Morgan County EMS, Morgan County Sheriff's Office - Indiana, and others, had a very quick response and made a quick and aggressive attack on the fire. No one was injured and one feline, was successfully rescued. This fire displaced 2 adults and 4 young children. If you are interested in helping this family, send an email to [email protected]. Special thanks to Morgan County Public Safety Dispatch for the excellent job they did in keeping us all safe. Also, special thanks to 1-800-BOARDUP for their rapid response.

We were recently contacted by a team of young ladies who are spearheading an effort to provide Christmas gifts to 30 different children in the Mooresville Acres Community. They have gotten several donations of both toys and money but it’s looking like they may fall short on gifts. They are asking for donations of unopened toys to be dropped off at our fire station on Main Street in Brooklyn. The station is open from 8-4, Monday through Friday. Additionally, if you would like to purchase a toy or two online, thru Amazon, you can follow the link below and it’ll automatically ship the gifts to the donation center. Brooklyn Fire will be driving Santa around on Christmas Eve to deliver many of these gifts.

Contact [email protected] should you have any questions or to arrange toy pickup at your home or business.

Thank you all for making this a special Christmas for those who would otherwise go without.

From time to time, we will get our ladder truck out and just practice various skills. Here we see FF K. Simpson and FF R. Pringle practicing on accessing the roof of our firehouse. This ensures our ladder gets used and all components are in working order and our firefighters hone their skills.
