🚨 Joint Training Recap: High-Speed MVA Extrication 🚨

Last night, the East Brooklyn Fire Department teamed up with Mortlake Fire Company for an intensive, scenario-based Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) drill at the Brooklyn Transfer Station.

📋 The Scenario
A single vehicle traveling at approximately 60 mph struck a stopped semi-truck while traveling on RTE 6.
Driver: 29-year-old restrained driver with physical entrapment.
Passenger: 26-year-old unrestrained passenger in the rear seat.

🎯 The Objective
Rapid scene size-up, medical triage, physical extrication, and patient care.
Our crews rolled up as they would on a real call, quickly assessing the scene, identifying patient priority levels, requesting necessary additional resources, and executing safe, effective extrications for both patients while delivering immediate medical care.
Joint training like this keeps our skills sharp, ensures smooth multi-agency coordination, and gives our newer members hands-on experience in complex rescue operations.

In the month of June, our department responded to 52 calls, with more than 30 of those being medical emergencies. Behind every call is a neighbor, friend, or family member who needed help—and we’re honored to be there when our community calls.

As our call volume continues to grow, so does our need for dedicated volunteers. If you’ve ever considered joining the department, we’d love to have you. Whether you’re interested in firefighting, EMS, or simply giving back to the town you call home, we’ll provide the training and support you need.

Volunteering is more than answering calls—it’s serving your neighbors, building lifelong friendships, and making a real difference right here at home.

Big milestones call for a safe celebration! As America hits the big 2-5-0 today.
Enjoy the cookouts, the family time, and the fireworks! We just ask that you help us out by keeping safety top of mind today:
Keep a close eye on grills and fire pits.
Douse sparklers completely in a bucket of water when done.
Keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles if you're parking for local events.
