Homeowners in New York are Buckling Under Rising Costs and Predatory Threats to Their Homeownership.

More than 300,000 homeowners in New York are cost burdened, spending more than a third of their income just to cover housing expenses, from skyrocketing insurance premiums to out of control utility bills. On top of that, communities of color have been targets of predatory behavior that threatens their homeownership and their families’ very stability, including rampant deed theft where scammers illegally transfer property ownership.

This is a call to action.

New York Communities for Change is launching the first meeting of its Homeowners’ Committee to organize homeowners to lower two of their biggest costs: their insurance costs and their utility bills. We’ll also talk about how to get resources to homeowners to enhance protections against deceptive actors that threaten their property ownership.

90% of New York's kids attend public schools; it’s on us to protect them.

Public dollars belong in public schools — not with vouchers that fund private schools with no accountability to taxpayers.

New York doesn't have to opt in. Gov. Hochul should reject this program and recommit to the schools serving nearly every child in our state.

NYCC is happy to announce that our Fall 2026 free education program will be starting again soon!

Our NYCOFI/NYCC Community Education Courses are offering GED Test Prep and Digital Literacy & Computer Skills classes, starting August 25th to December 17th.

All skill levels are welcome!

Computer Skills & Digital Literacy starts September 8th. One of our Computer classes is held in person at our office at 470 Vanderbilt Ave. Floor 9, Brooklyn, NY 11238, with computers provided; just come ready to learn! The rest are held on Zoom.

All GED Test Prep classes are held on Zoom, with noon and evening class options.

Zohran Mamdani should stand up to ConEd with the Gas Free NYC agenda. Nine New Yorkers were arrested today blocking the entrance to ConEd’s HQ while demanding that Mayor Mamdani help keep money in New Yorker’s pockets. Mamdani can do this while reducing city-heating, asthma-causing pollution and creating good union jobs. We’re looking to Zohran to lead!
