A Message from the Chiefs,

As the fair has come to a close, we want to take a moment to thank our entire membership and their families for the countless hours they have dedicated this week and the past few getting set up.

Working long hours in the heat, helping visitors park, answering questions, and making sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable way to attend the fair takes a tremendous amount of dedication.

We couldn’t do it without you. Your time, effort, and continued support of our community are truly appreciated.

We’ve had a great time helping park cars, meeting the community, and seeing so many familiar faces at the fair!

Deputy Chief Ogozalek even got the chance to go live with WINY Radio’s Gary O! Thanks to everyone who stopped by, said hello, and continues to support your local firefighters.

There’s still plenty of fair left! Come out tomorrow or Sunday and have some fun, and don’t forget to support your local volunteers!

Brooklyn Fair starts this Thursday!!

Mortlake will be on-site throughout the Brooklyn Fair providing fire protection, ambulance coverage, and a staffed medical building to help keep everyone safe.

Our crews are ready to assist with medical emergencies, fires, and other incidents while working alongside fair officials and our public safety partners.

Enjoy the fair, stay hydrated, watch out for one another, and don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need assistance.

The Mortlake Fire Company sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Past Deputy Chief Leo Berube, as well as to all those who had the distinct pleasure of serving alongside him.

Leo proudly served the Brooklyn community since 2009, and his leadership was instrumental in shaping Mortlake into what it is today. His love and dedication to the fire service never went unnoticed, and he was always someone you could rely on for guidance, mentorship, and support.

For years, we kept hearing, “Just one more year,” as Leo put off retirement. While we were glad to see Leo get the opportunity to enjoy some well deserved time in South Carolina, his absence was certainly felt around the firehouse. His knowledge, leadership, humor, and friendship will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Leo’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.

The Mortlake Fire Company would like to provide a brief update regarding an incident that occurred today at the Plainfield Police Department. While backing into the station’s sally port, one of our ambulances made contact with a gas line serving the building’s HVAC system. The incident resulted in no damage to the ambulance and minor damage to the gas line. There were no injuries, and police operations were not interrupted. The situation was addressed on scene.

Our EMS crews remain dedicated to providing professional and dependable service to our community. At the same time, our crews are human, and accidents do happen. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we work through this incident and continue to serve our communities every day.

Our volunteers, along with the Vintech crew, stopped by the Brooklyn Middle School to enjoy some fresh lemonade while supporting a great cause. Thank you to everyone who also stopped by to help make a difference for children fighting cancer. 🍋💛

Many of you have seen the paving work taking place on Route 6. We’d like to give a special thank you to Dave, a Connecticut Department of Transportation worker and Firefighter/EMT with Colchester Fire and EMS, who assisted and stayed with a patient experiencing a medical emergency until Mortlake crews arrived.

We truly appreciate your professionalism, and willingness to step up when it mattered most!
