Our annual Gala is tomorrow and we hope some more folks can join us!

Having some pancakes (which look delicious, btw) won't solve all our problems, I do think it'll actually be a pretty fun and energetic atmosphere. You can shmooze some local politicians, tell them to tax the rich, meet some people running for judges so when they show up on the ballot you'll be like "oh THAT'S Danielle", and/or listen to some really cool people talk about some of the work they're doing.

This Sunday, 2/1 - 12-3pm

Giovanni's Brooklyn (1666 8th Ave, Brooklyn at Prospect Ave)

Tickets are $150 - order online or at the door - CBIDems.org

We are honoring District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Bryony Romer, Sharon Harkey, the Association for Legislative Employees, Ruth's Refuge, Nydia Velazquez, and Jerry Nadler.

And on top of that - Letitia James is going to drop by and hang for a bit and give some what I can only assume will be a powerful and inspiring speech. And then of course I'll be there, MCing with my co-President. I'm working on finding some good political jokes, keep the mood light

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Just got word Brad Lander has been arrested by ICE at immigration court. Rallying at 26 Federal Plaza to begin as soon as folks can get there. Be safe, but be brave!

It's come to my attention that someone was seen recently handing out CBID palm cards that has all our endorsed candidates listed on it, but with Maya Kornberg's name and face blacked out with a Sharpie.

No matter what our personal preferences are, this is club literature paid for by us and it was a vote by our membership to endorse Maya. It is unacceptable to deface it and thus misrepresent the club's position. If you would prefer not to hand out literature that endorses Maya Kornberg or any other candidate we may vote to support, please refrain from using CBID lit in the future.

Proud to endorse the following candidates!

Reminder: Holiday potluck party tonight!

There will be a short Facebook Live airing tonight, but with a very short agenda, it won't last long. Instructions for how to show your attendance for voting eligibility will be shared early in the meeting.

Better yet, come to the party!

Dear Members,

Yes, today was a difficult day to face. I am devastated, I am angry, and I am scared.

These are normal reactions and emotions that I’m sure we all share to one degree or another. Let’s honor them and give each other comfort and solace as best we can.

For many of us who didn’t become truly active until the aftermath of the 2016 election, this comes at a time when we are unbelievably tired. For those CBIDers who have been around longer, well, they’re pretty tired, too. We put everything we could into canvassing, phonebanking, postcarding, emailing, texting. We have a right to be tired. And we do need a rest. I hope we give ourselves the time to grieve, to rest, to recharge.

I want to thank each and every one of you for the work you put in. [Don’t think to yourself “Oh, I wish I could have done more.” Maybe you could have. But whatever you did—even if it was just (“just”) voting, even if it was just talking to your friends and neighbors—it was important. We all did what we could. ]

I want to thank our elected officials for the time and effort they put in, especially Lincoln Restler, who organized several trips out to Long Island for Laura Gillen, who has (probably) won her seat in Congress. Especially Andrew Gounardes, who organized a bus to Pat Ryan’s district, helping to win that seat, as well. They were among several smaller wins, as well.

I want to especially thank our friends at IND and Brooklyn Young Democrats who worked tirelessly to push for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. All of whom are today hurting the same as we are.

And I want to thank BKForge for their incredible efforts, in partnership with the ACLU and Planned Parenthood, to get the New York Equal Rights Amendment into our state constitution—a wonderful, big win that everyone should be cheering.

But the fight is not over, much though we’d like to take a break. And, let’s do that, let’s celebrate the upcoming holidays and renew ourselves for the municipal elections to come. I know I’m going to want to hear from those candidates what their plans are to mitigate the effects that Project 2025 may wreak upon our city.

Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. And let’s keep meeting and working towards a better future for Brooklyn, for our city and state, and for our country.

In solidarity,

Sharon Harkey
President, CBID

Time-sensitive ask from the Prop 1 campaign:
Tish James is going to be at the Brooklyn Museum tomorrow morning roughly 8:30 am for Prop 1 visibility / handing out flyers to voters. Can anyone join so that there is a strong volunteer presence?

Let's get some CBIDers out there!
