For generations, Glen Cove has been a place of deep cultural and natural significance to the Patwin people.

Long before restoration efforts began, Yocha Dehe, Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation and the City of Vallejo established a cultural and conservation easement in 2011 to help protect this shoreline’s cultural and natural resources.

Building on that shared commitment, restoration efforts supported through Doyuti T’uhkama began in 2021 with a focus on restoring native habitat, strengthening ecological health and helping ensure the long-term resilience of the site.

Here’s a snapshot of that progress — and the partnership, care and stewardship that continue to guide this work.

This year’s Patwin Language & History Fair was filled with the sound of language, the strength of tradition, and the energy of our youth.

From songs and stories to student-led projects and games, our youth brought language and history to life with confidence, curiosity and joy.

Hear from Yocha Dehe Tribal Treasurer Leland Kinter and Patwin Language teachers Briana Roberts and Paige Kinter as they reflect on what it meant to witness this next generation embrace and carry forward our traditions.

Patwin Language teacher Paige Kinter blessed the Healing Ways Garden at Sacramento Native American Health Center with prayers in our Native language this morning.

Yocha Dehe is proud to support SNAHC’s pathbreaking Healing Ways program, bringing traditional herbal medicine and Indigenous nutrition into a clinical setting. Herbalist, Sage LaPena, showed us how medicines are grown, processed, and prescribed in south Sacramento.

Thank you to our partners Sacramento Native American Health Center, Inc. Sacramento Tree Foundation and California Conservation Corps for making this vision of wellness and connection to the land a reality.

Capay Valley showed off this weekend 🌿

Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation was honored to be a stop on this year’s Rustic Ramble, a spring fundraiser supporting Capay Valley Vision.

Guests explored native plant hedgerows near our Tribal Headquarters and connected with our team and partners at the Center for Land-Based Learning to learn how these projects support habitat, agriculture, and land stewardship.

Grateful to be part of a day that brings community, land, and learning together.

“For generations, our people have understood that the health of the land and the health of our communities are one and the same.”

Yesterday at Glen Cove Waterfront Park, we gathered with project partners, community leaders, and community members to honor the progress of this restoration — an effort that began in 2011 and continues today.

What’s taking shape here is more than environmental work. It’s renewal. It’s continuity. It’s care for a place that has long held meaning within Patwin territory.

Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation is proud to commit an additional $1 million to support ongoing restoration and long-term stewardship of Glen Cove.

This is a living landscape — and a reflection of the care and commitment behind this work.

“My heart is full standing here on traditional Patwin land.”

Chairman Anthony Roberts joined partners and Tribal leaders this week to celebrate the groundbreaking of the California Indian Heritage Center, a meaningful step toward a space where Native cultures, stories, and lifeways are honored and carried forward.

At the meeting of the Sacramento and American rivers, this future gathering place will welcome all into a deeper understanding of California’s Native peoples, past, present, and future.
