Imagine spending a day in old Brooksville 🍊

All the time I’ve spent researching, I have the most vivid picture in my head of what the different decades looked like. Reading this write up from Old Brooksville In Photos & Stories April 2019 -Volume 251 ‘Downtown Memories 1945-1965 publications’ had the sights, sounds and smells running through my head 🥰.

Pictured is US Route 41 (then Florida State Road 5) heading northbound via Broad Street into downtown Brooksville. This photo was seen in the February 1927 volume of Florida Highways and features the then new overhead over the Seaboard Air Line Railway. The building on the left displays the text "City Garage" and appears to have a elevated driveway to access the new overhead.

US Route 41 through Brooksville was briefly joined by a multiplex of US Route 19 when the highway was extended to St. Petersburg during 1930. US Route 19 was gradually shifted west to Florida State Road 15 as the highway was improved through the 1930s. US Route 41 would begin to multiplex Florida State Road 50 in downtown Brooksville after the 1945 State Road Renumbering. The multiplex was joined by US Route 98 through Brooksville when the highway was extended to Palm Beach in 1952. During 1993 the highway through Brooksville was moved to one-way couplets on Broad Street and Jefferson Street. Florida State Road 50 has been moved to a bypass of downtown Brooksville and has been replaced in downtown by Florida State Road 50A.
