🌿 Discover the Comeback Story of the Everglades Snail Kite! 🌿

Join us this Saturday, July 25, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm for a special presentation with scientist and author Hilary Flower: The Bird That Saved Itself - The Everglades Snail Kite Story.

In this engaging 45 minute talk, Flower shares the remarkable rebound of the Everglades Snail Kite, an endangered bird that adapted to invasive prey and shifting habitats in surprising ways. Sharing insights from her book, this talk blends ecology, personal journey, and hope, exploring how species survive, and even flourish, in a changing world.

A discussion and Q&A will follow, offering a deeper dive into species resilience and conservation in Florida.

Our center and the gate on Lake Lindsey Road will be closed this Saturday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day and we will not be holding our July 3D Archery event. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and fun holiday and we’ll see you back on the range in August for more archery fun!

Ever wondered how and why some songbirds are banded? Our staff recently gave visitors to Chinsegut Conservation Center a rare, up-close look. 🔎

As a kickoff to the Welcome Back Songbirds Festival earlier this spring, guests were encouraged to drop in as mist nets were monitored and birds were carefully banded by staff before being safely released, providing a special perspective on how critical data is collected to support bird conservation efforts. Each band has a unique ID, which helps with tracking the movements of individual birds and where they may end up next.

All bird handling and banding was conducted under the appropriate permits and supervision of trained FWC biologists.

The festival welcomed approximately 400 attendees from across the state, offering educational opportunities and outdoor exploration for the entire community.

3D Archery is back at Chinsegut this Saturday, June 6th!

Calling all archers, bring your own bow and arrows and hit the range with us. Sign-in starts at 8 am, and the range opens after a safety briefing at 9 am. Enjoy a fun and challenging course set in the great outdoors, perfect for sharpening your skills and connecting with fellow archers. We’ll also have a delicious food truck on-site, so come hungry!

Learn where to explore Florida’s wild side!

Chinsegut Conservation Center will be at the Hernando County Public Library (Spring Hill Branch) tomorrow, Thursday 6/4 from 1 to 2pm, to introduce visitors to the best outdoor recreation opportunities on local FWC managed lands. We can’t wait to share about our scenic trails and top birding spots.
