Dear Shark Families,
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we worked through adjustments to our morning drop-off procedures. Our goal is always to ensure the safest possible arrival for all students.
After monitoring traffic this morning, we found that completely eliminating the drop-off option along the road between Nature Coast Technical High School and Chocachatti Elementary School created significant congestion in our other drop-off areas.
Because of this, we will be modifying the plan rather than eliminating that option entirely.
First, please note that all tardies for students arriving within the first 10 minutes today were excused as we worked through these adjustments.
Safety remains our top priority. If you choose to continue to use this roadside drop-off area, the following procedures must be followed:
1. Vehicles must approach from the back of the school driving toward California Street. This prevents students from needing to cross traffic.
2. YOU CAN NOT PULL IN FROM CALIFORNIA ROAD AND DROP OFF - This is the biggest safety concern for our students. Dropping off coming from this way puts students in harms way for traffic crossing from both directions and can NOT BE USED GOING FURTHER.
3.Students should only exit using passenger-side doors so no one is stepping into the roadway where cars and buses may pass.
4.Please pull forward as close as possible to the yellow gate near the auditorium or the car in front of you before dropping off students.
5.We will have a staff member stationed near that gate to help students enter campus and safely cross the portion of the parking lot where traffic flows from two directions.
6.Picking up in the afternoon in the same direction is permitted, however this road way should be clear prior to the busses coming through which is at roughly 2:16. Again, we can NOT pick up coming in from California on that road way for the same reasons as the drop-off
These adjustments will help us maintain a safe and efficient arrival process while reducing congestion.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to find the right balance between student safety and getting nearly 1,300 Sharks to school on time each morning.
