Grass Tetany is a serious risk for grazing livestock, caused by low magnesium levels in the blood. While older, lactating cows are most at risk, it can affect dry cows, young cows, and calves too. Watch for nervousness, lack of coordination, or a drop in milk yield.

In the May issue, Kenny Burdine notes that national hay stocks were relatively encouraging, but also stresses that local hay supplies matter much more to producers than national averages. The article recommends taking inventory of hay supplies now because dry conditions may affect both grazing and hay production.
