Sheriff's Report to Bracken County Fiscal Court
January 1, 2026 – June 30, 2026
Financial Overview
The Sheriff's Office continues to operate in a fiscally responsible manner while maintaining a level of service accepted by the citizens of Bracken County. Through the second quarter of 2026, the Sheriff's Fee Account reported total receipts of $418,095.26 and total expenditures of $336,122.93, leaving a reconciled balance of $81,972.33. Revenue sources included tax collection commissions, court security services, civil process fees, vehicle inspections, state reimbursements, and Fiscal Court appropriations.
The Sheriff's Office is committed to responsible budgeting and careful management of public funds while continuing to provide law enforcement services, court security, tax collection duties, civil process service, and public safety initiatives throughout the county. Continued attention to fiscal stewardship has allowed the office to maintain operations, invest in equipment and training, and pursue opportunities that reduce costs to Bracken County taxpayers.
Activity
During the first six months of 2026, the Bracken County Sheriff's Office remained committed to providing professional law enforcement services, court security, civil process service, tax collection duties, traffic enforcement, and emergency response throughout Bracken County. The Office has documented 3,004 incidents/activities/calls for service while maintaining proactive patrol efforts and working closely with local, state, and regional public safety partners.

These statistics reflect the broad range of law enforcement and public service responsibilities performed daily by Sheriff's Office personnel.
Traffic Enforcement and Highway Safety
The Sheriff's Office continues to maintain as strong a presence as possible on the AA Highway and other heavily traveled roadways in an effort to reduce crashes and improve public safety. We have continued the use of the speed trailer on loan from the state by placing it in strategic locations throughout the county. We have responded to 90 total collisions and conducted 93 traffic stops. (24 injury/66 non-injury collisions)
Many of these incidents required coordination with Emergency Medical Services, local fire departments, Kentucky State Police, transportation officials, and neighboring law agencies. We thank them for their outstanding service.
Bracken County Traffic Study Report
Study Period: January 2015 – June 2026 (11.5 yrs.)
Summary
This report provides an analysis of known fatal traffic crashes occurring within Bracken County from January 2015 through June 2026 (11.5 yrs.). A review of available Kentucky State Police and Bracken County Sheriff crash records identified 21 documented fatal crashes. The review identified two major crash corridors within Bracken County:
AA Highway (KY-9) – 7 fatal crashes.
Mary Ingles Highway (KY-8) – 5 fatal crashes.
Together, these two state-maintained highways account for approximately 57 percent of all fatal crashes identified during the study period.

AA Highway represents the most fatal crash corridor identified, having 7 fatal crashes. Mary Ingles Hwy is probably the most dangerous when accounting for traffic volume/miles driven, having 5 fatal crashes. The majority of crashes occurred during clear weather conditions, suggesting driver behavior may be contributing more significantly than weather-related factors. More than 60 percent of crashes occurred under clear and dry conditions. This suggests roadway design, operating characteristics, and driver behavior may be more influential than weather in crash occurrence.
Enforcement and Investigative Activity
In addition to responding to calls for service, we remained active in investigations, follow-up casework, and enforcement activities.
During the reporting period the Sheriff's Office:
Responded to 21 harassment complaints
Investigated 18 domestic-related incidents
Investigated 16 juvenile complaints
Responded to 10 assault complaints
Investigated 10 theft complaints
Investigated 5 auto theft/unlawful use complaints
Investigated 2 burglary complaints
Completed approximately 40 criminal offense reports
Conducted 5 crisis intervention investigations/transports
Completed multiple case supplements on active investigations
Processed evidence submissions involving fi****ms, narcotics, safekeeping property, and other investigative evidence
Completed 19 JC-3 investigations/reports involving child welfare and juvenile-related matters
These activities reflect the Sheriff's Office's ongoing commitment to protecting the public, pursuing criminal investigations, and maintaining accountability throughout Bracken County.
Court Security and Civil Process
Court security and civil process service remain core functions of the Sheriff's Office.
During the reporting period:
Served/Attempted 497 court documents and civil papers
Executed multiple summonses, Emergency Protective Orders, and related court orders
Conducted 22 warrant services or warrant attempts
Provided daily security for the Bracken County Judicial Center
Assisted with prisoner transports, extraditions and court-related functions
The Sheriff's Office continues to maintain a safe and secure environment for court personnel, attorneys, jurors, litigants, and citizens utilizing the judicial system.
Equipment and Cost Savings
The Sheriff's Office consistently pursues opportunities that improve safety and efficiency while reducing costs to Bracken County taxpayers.
Through the Kentucky Attorney General's Body Armor Grant Program, the Sheriff's Office received funding for three new ballistic vests for Deputy Kiskaden, Deputy Scott, and Deputy Wood. This grant helps ensure our court officers have modern protective equipment while reducing costs to the county.
Additionally, the Sheriff's Office recently received approximately 20 Electronic Control Devices (ECDs), commonly referred to as Tasers, from the Campbell County Police Department at no cost to Bracken County taxpayers. This equipment donation represents a substantial cost savings while significantly enhancing officer safety and operational readiness. These devices will be distributed to deputies, court security personnel, and the Bracken Co Jailer/staff, ensuring our personnel have access to an effective less-lethal option when responding to potentially dangerous situations.
The Sheriff's Office is grateful for the partnership demonstrated by the Campbell County Police Department and appreciates the cooperation between agencies working together to better serve the citizens of our communities.

The Bracken County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing professional, responsive, and accountable law enforcement services to the citizens of Bracken County. During the first six months of 2026, the office recorded 3,004 activities/incidents/calls for service, served nearly 500 court documents, conducted numerous patrol and enforcement activities, investigated criminal complaints and traffic collisions, maintained court security operations, and secured grants and equipment donations that improved officer safety while reducing costs to taxpayers.
