Construction activity is in full swing across Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools as crews take advantage of the summer months to complete major facility improvements that will enhance learning environments, improve energy efficiency, and support the long-term needs of our students and staff.
East Central High School
One of the largest projects this summer is the replacement of the remaining 17 rooftop HVAC units at East Central High School. This work requires the use of a large crane and extensive coordination among crane operators, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, engineers, and construction managers. These units are critical to providing reliable climate control throughout the building and represent a significant investment in the school's infrastructure.
The west bus parking lot and sidewalks around doors 10 and 11 are being replaced as well.
Bright Elementary School
At Bright Elementary School, significant site improvements are underway. Crews are installing new sidewalks, replacing all asphalt pavement, and upgrading building windows. These improvements will enhance safety, accessibility, energy efficiency, and the overall appearance of the campus.
Sunman Elementary School
Work continues at Sunman Elementary School, where the remaining classrooms are receiving new unit ventilators. These upgrades provide improved air quality, increased energy efficiency, and more consistent classroom comfort for students and staff. The unit ventilator replacement project is part of the district's broader mechanical renovation efforts at Sunman Elementary School.
North Dearborn Elementary School
North Dearborn Elementary School is also seeing exciting improvements this summer with the installation of a new playground featuring a poured-in-place safety surface. This modern playground design will provide students with a safer, more accessible, and more durable play environment for years to come. The project is part of the district's continued commitment to enhancing student spaces both inside and outside the classroom.
Looking Ahead
Despite the complexity of coordinating multiple contractors and projects across several campuses, progress continues on schedule. The summer construction season provides a valuable opportunity to complete major improvements while students are out of the buildings, minimizing disruption and preparing our schools for the upcoming academic year.
These projects reflect Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools' ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, modern, and efficient learning environments.
