Otis has had a busy day! Today he rode with Captain Ferguson and assisted Company 76 with hydrant flow testing. He learned how important it is to periodically flow the fire hydrants and calculate available flows.

This verifies that system valves are wide open and allows the fire department to understand exactly how much water is available at each fire hydrant. This varies depending on the size of the water lines feeding the neighborhood.

Flowing hydrants will sometimes cause the water to be discolored for a short time, but this process is essential to our emergency preparedness.

REMINDER - IMPORTANT! This week (Tues 8/25, Wed 8/26, & Thur 8/27) there will be hydrant flow testing at various points throughout the City of Brookville.

This testing has the potential to cause the water to be discolored within the distribution system. You are encouraged to check water for discoloration prior to use. If discolored water is observed, run ALL TAPS at your home or business until clear - running until clear only typically takes a couple of minutes.

This flow testing is necessary to ensure the readiness of our water system - we apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

A big THANK YOU! to the Premier Careflight Program for visiting Fire Station 76 last night. Personnel from Brookville and Phillipsburg reviewed safety procedures and received orientation on their newest medical helicopter.

Today Otis received some operational training on Ladder 76 from Captain Jordan Schoening. They carefully positioned FF/P Gavin McGriff at the top of the flagpoles so he could repair a broken halyard. Once repaired, all three flags will be flying once again over Fire Station 76. And Otis is off to his next adventure!

Beginning tomorrow (8/7/2026) between 7am-8am, propane technicians will begin flaring the large propane storage tank at Victory Propane, 6975 Brookville Salem Road in Clay Township. This is a controlled burn-off of residual propane and will take 8 to 18 hours to complete. They only plan to burn during daytime hours, so burning may resume on 8/8/2026.
