🌊 Terminology Tuesday: Floodplain 🌊

Ever wonder why some areas next to a stream are left undeveloped?

A floodplain is the land alongside a river or stream that naturally fills with water during periods of high flow.

While flooding may seem like a problem, healthy floodplains provide many important benefits:
💧 Store excess floodwater and reduce downstream flooding
🌿 Filter sediment and pollutants before they reach the stream
🐦 Provide habitat for wildlife
🌳 Support native trees and plants that help stabilize streambanks

Protecting floodplains allows streams to do what they were designed to do naturally, helping keep both our communities and our waterways healthier.

The Clarion Conservation District Board of Directors is accepting applications for the full-time position of the Erosion and Sediment (E&S) Technician. This position will lead the Clarion Conservation District’s Chapter 102 Program in Clarion County. The primary responsibilities of this position include reviewing all E&S Control Plans, NPDES Permits, conduct site visits for earth disturbance activities under permit, and provide technical assistance to land users in planning and applying soil and water conservation practices.
