The Broussard Police Department has published this helpful flyer on state laws regarding golf carts and similar vehicles.

Recently, we've received several complaints about golf carts being driven on roadways. There are established laws that govern the use and restrictions on golf carts, UTVs, and low speed vehicles. We want to begin by educating our community about the prohibitions on golf cart use in Broussard. Please do your part to help keep our community safe by adhering to these laws and ensuring your children/adolescents are following the laws. See attached flyer for additional information.

Lafayette Parish mayors issue Halloween COVID-19 safety guidance for 2020

Lafayette Parish Mayors, including Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque, are offering the following safety guidance to parents and children who plan on trick-or-treating this year, which the CDC has deemed a high-risk activity due to COVID-19:

β€’ Don’t wear gloves when handing out candy. Offer pre-wrapped goody bags or sanitize hands in between house visits.

β€’ Do not participate in Halloween festivities if you are feeling ill.

β€’ Only Trick-or-Treat with members of your household and within your own neighborhood, if possible.

β€’ Halloween masks are not a substitute for real masks. Please ensure that proper face coverings are worn while out in public.

β€’ Avoid activities in which germs can spread easily such as bobbing for apples or close-quartered haunted houses.

β€’ Consider alternatives to Trick or Treating such as CDC’s Zombie Survival Scavenger Hunt or Drive-Thru Trick or Treating

β€’ Recognize official Halloween times as 6-8 p.m.

09/25/2020

Local businesses are the backbone of our community, providing services, jobs, and growth for our City. We are recognizing Broussard success stories who have taken advantage of the opportunities available in Broussard to make their businesses thrive.

Our first is Kyle J. Sibley, President of Sibley Companies for 18 years and Founding Member of PR2 (Learn more about what they are doing to provide a Standard of Care for employers, building owners, and employees to reduce exposure and risk to COVID-19 at https://vimeo.com/428554969). Sibley Construction Services, LLC. is a turnkey insurance restoration construction company, and their services include water mitigation and dry down, contents pack out, fire and smoke mitigation, mold remediation, emergency services, roofing, and restoration. They serve our community by helping clients navigate the insurance claims process and assist them through every aspect of the claim and restoration process.

Mr. Sibley says he chooses to do business in Broussard because, β€œBroussard is business friendly! We have access to the Mayor, Police Chief, Chamber of Commerce, and all of the community leaders. They answer the phone when called and always follow through. The community has a great culture of leadership.”

His favorite place to visit in Broussard is the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park. β€œThe structure, design, and layout simply amaze me. It has something for everyone.”

Join Mr. Sibley for the Broussard Chamber’s Lessons Over Lunch presented by COX Business at noon on October 1 for a casual conversation regarding the challenges of running a business. Registration is required, so reserve your seat and submit your question at https://bit.ly/3hYyRJG.

Meet our City Staff: Josh Jordan!

Josh has been with the City of Broussard for 3 Β½ years, and while his official title may be Equipment Operator, he also performs a wide range of duties from carpenter to plumber to resident chef. Josh’s culinary skills are often called on, especially during Emergency Operations such as Hurricanes Laura and Barry, to provide fresh hot meals for City workers, Fire Dept., and Police Dept. With his love of cooking, it’s no wonder that he says Billeaud's Meat & Grocery is one of his favorite places in Broussard.

The Old Spanish Trail Auto Highway in 1929

Travelogs provided guides for travelers driving the Old Spanish Trail (OST) auto highway, which connected St. Augustine to San Diego. Broussard was listed on the map, and the March 1929 travelog gives the following description:

The three largest sugar mills in Louisiana are on the Old Spanish Trail: Raceland, Franklin and Broussard. The bagasse, the stalk after the cane juice has been pressed out, was formerly used as fuel, now is made into Celotex for insulating material. Visitors are welcomed.

The OST Highway connected St. Augustine to San Diego. This site shows a glimpse of the highway in 1929.

Newsflash: A LOT of people live in the apartment complex and trailer park that is right next to St. Julien Park, and would appreciate being able to go home even though people are leaving the fireworks show. Instead of not letting in ANY incoming traffic, why don’t y’all make everything a one-way...all right turns allowed will still allow traffic to flow without making people pull over for more than a half hour (STILL WAITING and show ended 40 minutes ago) in order to get home a block away.
