August has been a really hard month for Nurture then Nature. We’ve raised just $115 of our $600 monthly needs and that has already been used where it was needed. We’re currently at $0, and we haven’t been able to place our meat order for the foxes.

Between feeding the skunks and keeping up with Oliver’s monthly vet bill, I’ve put in what I could from my own pocket. Right now, we have only about 3–4 days of food left for the foxes. 🥺

🦊 Fundraiser Friday: We Could Really Use Some Help ❤️

Halfway through August already… and I’ll be honest, this month has been a tough one for Nurture then Nature.

Our goal is $600 for the month, which covers the basic food, care, and preventatives for our foxes and skunks. So far, we’ve received $100.

After purchasing food for the skunks, our wildlife account is now down to just $19. 😔

And unfortunately, the need doesn’t stop there. We still need to cover the remainder of our food costs, and Oliver’s monthly vet payment is due as well. We are really stretched thin right now, and I’m doing everything I can to keep up with the expenses while making sure these animals continue to get the care they deserve.

These aren’t expenses we can simply put off. Our animals still need to eat, their enclosures still need to be maintained, medications and preventatives still need to be purchased, and veterinary care still has to be paid.

I don't always find it easy to ask for help.

Like so many small rescues and sanctuaries, we do everything we can to make sure our animals never go without. We stretch every dollar, put their needs before our own, and somehow always find a way. But today, I'm asking for your help because we simply can't do it alone.

A quick update for everyone as some aren't aware.

I officially retired from wildlife rehabilitation in late 2024 and am no longer legally permitted to accept any native wildlife for care or rehabilitation.

Nurture then Nature has since been dedicated exclusively to providing lifelong care for our captive-bred foxes and skunks. Thank you all for your continued love and support as we continue to focus on giving these amazing animals the best lives possible. ❤️🦊🦨

Because of your kindness, shares, donations, and encouragement, Nurture then Nature is now a little over halfway to our June goal. Every single dollar, every comment, and every person who took a moment to care about our foxes and skunks means more to us than words can truly express.

Caring for our residents isn't just food in bowls. It's enrichment, flea and tick prevention, cleaning supplies, fresh bedding, veterinary needs, and making sure each animal feels safe, comfortable, and loved every single day. They depend entirely on us, and we depend on this amazing community.

I debated for days about whether to make this post.

The truth is, I don't like asking for help.

Every time I sit down to write a fundraiser, I worry that people are tired of seeing them. I worry that I'm bothering people. I worry that everyone is struggling with their own bills, their own lives, and their own challenges.

But then I look out at the foxes and skunks who depend on me every single day, and I know I have to put my pride aside and ask.

Last month was one of the hardest months we've had financially. Our monthly food budget for the sanctuary animals is approximately $600. Together, we only raised less than $200.

That allowed us to cover food for the skunks, but it wasn't enough to place a new meat order for the foxes. Instead, I had to stretch the previous month's supply much longer than I should have. To make it work, I found myself relying on fillers like dog food more often than I'm comfortable with. While dog food can be used occasionally as a treat or supplement, it's not the diet I strive to provide for them.

The foxes don't understand fundraising goals.

They don't understand inflation, rising costs, or difficult months.

They simply trust that when they run to the fence to greet me, breakfast will be there. They trust that dinner will come. They trust that they'll be cared for.

And that responsibility weighs heavily on me.

Something many people don't see is how emotionally difficult rescue and rehabilitation can be behind the scenes. While there are incredible people in this community, there can also be a lot of judgment. Over the years during a time when I was completely overwhelmed and physically couldn't take in another animal, I was told that animals would die because of me, that I don't care about anything but infant animals because they were "cute" when legally infants were all I was allowed to help, that I shouldn't refer to myself as a sanctuary, even though the literal definition of sanctuary is providing temporary/permanent safe haven to animals in need.

Those words have never fully left me.

The reality is that none of us can save every animal. We all have limits. We all carry burdens that others don't see. And sometimes the pressure of trying to do right by every animal, every day, can feel crushing.

That's one reason I don't post as often as I probably should. Anxiety has a way of convincing you to stay quiet. It tells you people don't care. It tells you you're asking too much. It tells you to handle it yourself.

But the truth is that no sanctuary or safe haven has ever been built by one person.

It's been built by a community of people who care.

People who celebrate Swift's silly antics, smile when Anubis demands attention, laugh at the skunks, and genuinely care about the animals who call this place home.

Today, I'm asking for your help.

We need to raise funds for food for our 8 foxes and 2 skunks. Every donation, no matter the amount, goes directly toward keeping them fed and cared for.

It’s been a little quiet here since May 6th, and honestly life has been a lot lately. Between caring for a sick elderly dog, trying to survive a kitchen remodel that somehow turned into a 3 year project and celebrating my birthday yesterday, I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed and stretched thin.

And while I know social media moves fast and it’s easy to forget about us when I’m not constantly posting, the reality is the animals still depend on us every single day, whether I’m active online or not. 🦊🦨

Right now, the 8 foxes and 2 skunks are only about $150 into their $600 monthly care goal. Their food, enrichment, cleaning supplies, vet care, and everyday needs never stop, and I could really use some help catching up this month.

Hey everyone 💛

I wanted to take a moment to share something important about the direction of Nurture then Nature, especially since many people may not realize a change that happened back in 2024.

In 2024, I made the very difficult decision to retire from infant wildlife rehabilitation. As much as I loved caring for the tiniest, most vulnerable babies, it simply became unsustainable for me to continue. Doing that work alone, without consistent funding or additional hands, was becoming increasingly overwhelming. The level of around-the-clock care and resources required was more than I could responsibly manage while still doing right by the animals already in my care.

Since then, I’ve shifted my full focus to what I can sustainably provide long-term, a safe, stable forever home for the foxes and skunks who rely on me. This change has allowed me to ensure they receive the consistent care, attention, and quality of life they deserve.
That said, I do want to be transparent about where things currently stand.

This past Fundraiser Friday, we raised $22 toward our $600 monthly goal. Every dollar goes directly toward food, care, and the basic needs that keep everything running day to day for the animals here.
