🦊💚 SECOND CHANCE SATURDAY: WE NEED YOUR HELP 🦨

Today, I’m asking you to please take a moment to think about the foxes and skunks who depend on us. They don’t understand bills, debt, fundraising goals, or why the food might be running low. They only know that we are here to care for them, and we are doing everything we can to keep that promise.

But right now, we are struggling, and we desperately need our community.

💔 Here is where we stand:

🦊 We have only 3 days of food left for the foxes.

💚 We raised no funds toward our regular animal care expenses during September. The donations we received went toward cremation and necropsy costs following the heartbreaking loss of Calypso and Pollux.

💚 We currently have just $50 toward October's care.

💚 We need to raise $600 just to cover this month's basic care, including food, preventatives, and enrichment. That doesn't include the debt we've accumulated trying to keep everything going through last month.

And after everything we've been through, after the expense, the heartbreak, and the hope that we might finally understand what happened to our beloved foxes, we still have no answers. Michigan State University's final conclusion was that they could not determine a cause of death.

We are left with grief, unanswered questions, and bills that still need to be paid. The cost of cremation and necropsy totaling $1200 is all paid off thanks to the help of your donations and sharing, thank you. 🩷

🦊 There's something else weighing heavily on my heart.

We have an opportunity to help more foxes who are not in the greatest condition. The thought of being able to give them a better life is something that means so much to us. But the reality is that we are struggling to provide for the animals already in our care.

Taking in additional foxes would require approximately $500 for a new enclosure, on top of the ongoing cost of their care. As much as it hurts to admit, I don't know if we can make that happen when we're struggling just to meet our current monthly needs.

And that is a heartbreaking place to be when your heart wants to help every animal you possibly can.

We cannot save every animal, but together, we can make a difference for the ones depending on us right now. ❤️

🦊 FUNDRAISER FRIDAY — WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP 🦊

The last few weeks have been incredibly difficult here at Nurture then Nature. After the completely unexpected passing of Calypso and Pollux, we're still working through the emotional loss and now the financial costs that came with trying to find answers.

💔 Both Calypso and Pollux's remains have now returned home.
But we're still working to cover the costs of their cremations and necropsy.

We also finally received the necropsy results for Pollux from MSU.

The necropsy showed mild congestion in his lungs and liver, but MSU explained that those findings would not be enough to cause the sudden deaths of two foxes so close together.

At this time, they still cannot determine the exact cause of death, although they believe they can likely rule out infectious disease.

Because we desperately want answers, not only for our own peace of mind, but for the safety of the six foxes still in our care I asked MSU about running a toxicology test.

Unfortunately, I learned that toxicology is an additional cost. I had believed it was included in the original amount we were charged for the necropsy, so I'm currently waiting to hear back from Parkway regarding the additional cost.

🔬 We want answers. We want to know what happened. And we want to make sure we're doing everything possible to protect the foxes who are still here.

Thankfully, our remaining 6 foxes are currently doing well. ❤️🦊

But while we're dealing with these unexpected expenses, our regular monthly needs haven't stopped.

We still need approximately $600 every month for basic necessities including:

🧸 Enrichment
🧼 Daily care supplies
❤️ Everything needed to keep our foxes happy, healthy and comfortable

Fundraiser Friday

This has been an exhausting week. I did receive news today that Calypso's remains arrived at Parkway and are available for pickup. MSU sent the preliminary report of Pollux 's necropsy results to Parkway, I just got off the phone with her and was told the preliminary results did not show a cause of death and that the microscopic results are still pending, unfortunately they did not give me a time frame on those results. 😭 I just want answers so we can continue to do our best for our remaining 6 foxes.

Castor is sad and eerily quiet without his brother, those 2 were always talking with one another and play fighting. Anubis, Swift, Andromeda, Sly and Oliver are all still hanging in there. Everyone seems a bit down in spirits but otherwise okay.

Tomorrow I'll be heading back to Parkway to pick up Calypso's ashes.

We're still in need of covering some of the costs, and unfortunately also still need to raise our monthly $600 to provide the remaining foxes and skunks with their daily care and needs.

Just $554.63 left to complete paying off their cremation services, vet visit and necropsy. A large thank you to all who have shared, donated and shared kind words. Tomorrow I should be receiving an email from MSU with an estimated time for the results of the necropsy. Hopefully we'll have answers soon.

Castor is out there crying every night for his brother. He's so lonely. I'm hoping to either move Oliver in with him as Oliver has been separated from Andy and Sly since he went back out after surgery earlier this year. Or my other option would be to remove the separation between Castor, Anubis and Swift and let them have one giant 10×50 enclosure. I currently do not want to do anything without having those results first so we can make sure the remaining foxes are safe. All pens have now been heavily disinfected.

We're currently in the process of disinfecting all the pens. Thankfully the vet gave us some Gabapentin to help sedate them a little while for this stressful event. All remaining 6 foxes are still doing well, praying nothing happens to them. We still need to raise $642.69 of our $1200 goal. We are nearly half way there. Thank you to all of those who have reached out with kind words and support and to those who have donated and shared so we can lay our beautiful foxes to rest and get answers as to what happened to them so rapidly.

💔 WE NEED YOUR HELP — URGENTLY 💔

Yesterday was one of the hardest days we have ever experienced at Nurture then Nature.

Friday afternoon, I went out to feed the foxes. Everyone was completely normal — active, energetic, hungry, and showing absolutely no signs of illness. They were all doing exactly what they normally do.

Saturday was supposed to be a wonderful day. We were hosting our annual Family BBQ when we noticed something was very wrong with Calypso. She had suddenly become lethargic.

I immediately began calling emergency veterinarians, spending hours trying to find somewhere that could see her. Sadly, before I could get her there, Calypso passed away very suddenly.

Then, unbelievably, we noticed Pollux, who was in the connecting enclosure, showing the same symptoms.

We rushed him toward the veterinarian, but he passed away on the way there.

Two foxes. Less than 24 hours after they had been completely normal.

They were even running around and acting healthy that morning.

I didn't get home until approximately 2:30 AM.

Today, I am making the trip to Michigan State University for a necropsy so we can hopefully find answers. Both Calypso and Pollux will also be cremated.

At this point, we do NOT know what caused their deaths. We cannot and will not make assumptions until we have answers. The necropsy results could take 4–6 weeks.

Because of how quickly this happened, we are taking every precaution possible with our remaining 6 foxes. All enclosures need to be thoroughly disinfected and sanitized, and we are being extremely cautious about everything coming into the property.

For the time being, I am not comfortable accepting any meat donations.

I want to be very clear about why: the foxes had shown absolutely no signs of illness prior to being fed the donated chicken. They were healthy, active, and completely themselves. Then, in an incredibly short period of time, we lost two of them.

We need answers before we can feel comfortable accepting donated meat again.

And now, on top of the emotional devastation, we have an enormous financial burden.

Between last night's emergency veterinary care and today's expenses, we have already put $1,200 on our CareCredit card.

I am still making payments on Oliver's tibia surgery from last November.

Now we have emergency veterinary expenses, necropsy costs, cremation, and the supplies needed to completely sanitize the enclosures.

We desperately need your help.

🦊 We Really Need Your Help ❤️

August has been a really hard month for Nurture then Nature. We’ve raised just $115 of our $600 monthly needs and that has already been used where it was needed. We’re currently at $0, and we haven’t been able to place our meat order for the foxes.

Between feeding the skunks and keeping up with Oliver’s monthly vet bill, I’ve put in what I could from my own pocket. Right now, we have only about 3–4 days of food left for the foxes. 🥺

🦊 Fundraiser Friday: We Could Really Use Some Help ❤️

Halfway through August already… and I’ll be honest, this month has been a tough one for Nurture then Nature.

Our goal is $600 for the month, which covers the basic food, care, and preventatives for our foxes and skunks. So far, we’ve received $100.

After purchasing food for the skunks, our wildlife account is now down to just $19. 😔

And unfortunately, the need doesn’t stop there. We still need to cover the remainder of our food costs, and Oliver’s monthly vet payment is due as well. We are really stretched thin right now, and I’m doing everything I can to keep up with the expenses while making sure these animals continue to get the care they deserve.

These aren’t expenses we can simply put off. Our animals still need to eat, their enclosures still need to be maintained, medications and preventatives still need to be purchased, and veterinary care still has to be paid.
