In an opinion piece, Nate Gilliam writes that Wisconsin can’t address the growing and disproportionate harm being caused by climate change to marginalized communities if it continues to invest in a carceral state.

He said the state spends billions every year on an unjust, violent carceral state.

“Creating a humane future for all of us means not spending resources on death-making entities but instead investing in life-affirming climate-resilient infrastructure and resources. Climate catastrophe does not allow us to spend money on both,” Gilliam writes.
