The Brown Deer Police Department wants to remind you that keeping children safe in the car starts with using the right restraint at the right stage. This graphic highlights Wisconsin’s child passenger safety requirements and recommended best practices for rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats, booster seats, seat belts, and when children should ride in the back seat. Take a moment to review the guidelines and make sure your child’s car seat or seat belt fits properly.

The Brown Deer Police K9 Unit is selling customizable mugs. There are various sizes, colors, and logos to choose from. A portion of the proceeds go to K9 Beny and K9 Haber's training and care. Local pick up or shipping options are available. The online store closes on Monday, September 7th. Thank you for the support!

With the first day of school just around the corner here are a couple of reminders and safety tips regarding school zones and school buses.

• Don't block the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn, forcing pedestrians to go around you; this could put them in the path of moving traffic

• In a school zone when flashers are blinking, stop and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection

• Always stop for a school patrol officer or crossing guard holding up a stop sign

• Take extra care to look for children in school zones, near playgrounds and parks, and in all residential areas

• On a bus, if the yellow or red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, traffic must stop

On Thursday, August 13th, the Brown Deer Police Officer attended the Back-to-School Barbecue event at Bradley Crossing, hosted by Jewish Family Services. This event brought the community together and provided resources for families as the school year begins.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: FAKE SPECTRUM REPRESENTATIVES 🚨

The Brown Deer Police Department would like to make our community aware of a scam that has recently been reported involving individuals posing as Spectrum representatives.

Scammers are contacting people and claiming they can lower their monthly Spectrum bill by ordering new phones. During the conversation, they may ask for account information, request access to the victim's account, or instruct the victim to make changes to their account.

Once they gain access, the scammers order phones using the victim's Spectrum account, leaving the victim responsible for the charges.

📦 Here's where the scam continues:
When the unexpected phones arrive, the victim contacts who they believe is a Spectrum representative to return them. The scammer then provides a "return address." However, instead of being returned to Spectrum, the phones are shipped directly to the scammers.

⚠️ These scammers can sound professional and convincing, making the call appear legitimate.

🛑 Protect Yourself:

• Never provide account information or passwords to someone who calls you unexpectedly.
• If someone claims to be from Spectrum, hang up and contact Spectrum directly using the number on your bill or its official website.
• Be cautious of unsolicited offers promising significant discounts or deals that seem too good to be true.
• If you receive merchandise you didn't order, do not ship it using instructions provided by an unsolicited caller or email. Contact the company directly and verify the proper return process.

Most importantly, never rely on the phone number, email address, or return address provided by the person who contacted you. Verify everything independently.

Please share this information with your family, friends, and neighbors—especially those who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams.

Stay alert. Stop. Verify. Then act. 👮‍♂️

It was great seeing so many families, friends, neighbors, community partners, and local organizations come together for an evening of food, fun, conversation, and community. Events like National Night Out wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of everyone who participated, volunteered, stopped by, or helped make the evening a success.

We’re already looking forward to doing it again next year!
