Arnold Community Educational Services, affectionately known as ACES, became an official non-profit organization on September 2, 2014. E.

"Why"

ACES was created to honor Brenda and C. Arnold for their collective contribution of more than 80 years of service in the field of Education. Brenda served as a Master English teacher for over 40 years and her husband, C. E., served as principal for 40 + years as well. Because of their amazing commitment to family and community, love for learning, and great passion for educating our children

and community at large, ACES was created to continue their legacy. "What"

The purpose of this organization is to provide services that are educational, enriching and enjoyable for the entire community. "Where"

Hey Cub Nation. We are excited because it looks like the weather is going to cooperate and we will finally have our first meeting of the year.  That’s right, tomorrow evening at 7 PM the BHS Girls Choir will be our featured readers for Celebrity Reading 2020. Even though it was 77° today, tomorrow will be cold so put on your warm jammies, bring your pillow and favorite stuffed animal, and come on down to ACES for an evening of family fun. Remember, each child in attendance will receive a brand new book complements of the Brownfield YMCA. Also, mark your calendar for February 28, the last Friday in this month. Join us between 3 and 6 PM for our “5th Annual Winter Scholarship Tea.” This is a great way to support our graduating high school seniors that will continue their education. A donation in any amount will get you a delicious hot beverage. You may select fromhomemade hot chocolate, homemade spice tea‘s, and a variety of flavored teas for your enjoyment. All proceeds will go to our scholarship fund for our graduating high school kids, so mark your calendars and come on down to the Square and show our kids that you care.

Hey Cub Nation. We have a weather alert!!! Due to snow and ice predictions for tomorrow, our class with Mason Becker and the discussion on h**p, has been postponed to February 25, the fourth Tuesday in this month. Hey Cub Nation. We hope that everyone had wonderful holidays. It’s almost February and that means we’re getting ready to start up another amazing year of activities and events for you. We are kicking off this new year, this new decade, on February 4, at 7 PM with Mason Becker. Mason will answer all of your questions about h**p. So, for those of us that have questions be there at 7 PM. On February 11, Donna Dill will present her Finger Knitting Scarf class. This will be a great class and according to Donna it’s very easy to do . You can bring your own “Loop Yarn” or for $5.00 Donna will pick it up for you. You are encouraged to bring extra yarn to embellish your scarf.Please pre-pay for this class by Tuesday, February 4, and remember there are only 15 spaces so call 637-2241 or 777-1557 to reserve your spot. On Tuesday, February 18 the Brownfield High School Girls Choir will serve as celebrity readers. A special thank you to the Brownfield YMCA for providing new books for each child in attendance. Bring your children out for a fun evening. On February 25 join us for an evening of poetry and music. Please save the date February 28 for the “5th Annual Winter Scholarship Tea” which will be from 3 to 6 PM. Please join us to support our kids by giving a donation for a hot beverage. We will have homemade hot chocolate, homemade tea’s,as well as flavored teas. We have 14 students applying for scholarships so every dollar will be greatly appreciate and every penny we receive that day will go to the scholarship fund. Hey Cub Nation. Another amazing “12 days of Christmas” at Colonial Heights. The staff and families are always so inviting and we thank you for that. A special thank you to all participants: Brownfield Police Department (one of our readers at Storytelling Time), always festive BRMC staff (balloons and goodie bags with crayons, coloring books, and more, plus a special shout-out to Jerry Jasper, CEO of BRMC for stepping in to save the day, volunteering to be our second reader for our children during Storytelling Time), Bush’s Chicken (a fun tossing game and chicken strips sandwiches), Catholic Charities (art activity for children and parents), Community Action (Cub drawstring backpacks and other goodies), Dr. Cauley’s staff, always in full force and looking beautiful (toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, slinky, yo-yo, stickers and more), McDonalds (food coupons distributed at Storytelling Time), Tom and Linda Hess ( the real Mr. and Mrs. Clause), SPPHD (Cup of goodies, candy, coloring books, crayons, pencils and more), Terry County Strings (hours of wonderful music).  There was also facepainting, play station with many games and prizes, play dough , art areas, construction areas, puzzles, and the list goes on. What an amazing fun filled evening for the entire family and everything was free. We thank Rhonda Duncan and the Brownfield Credit Union for donating funds for the food that was provided for the many children and families in attendance. We have such amazing businesses in our community that are always willing to donate back to it’s residence, so please SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES. Thank you Mrs. Brisendine and your Colonial Heights staff, all participants, and donors for all that you do for our community. We at ACES wish you a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year.

Hey Cub Nation. Last week was a fun and busy one. On Tuesday Katelyn Besler presented an amazing class. What an awesome young lady with such poise and great abilities. Our origami class was amazing and Katelyn you are an incredible instructor. Thanks for a wonderful evening. A great big shout out to everyone that came out on Thursday evening to support Keep the Cheer Here, sponsored by Brownfield Chamber of Commerce. Thanks to you, Cub Nation, the evening was a total success. Special thanks to Lorena Valencia, Chamber, director, for all the hard work coordinating this very special community event. Thanks to all vendors for making the evening exceptional. We will resume activities in February 2020. From our house at ACES to yours, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Hey Cub Nation. We hope everyone had a blessed and safe Thanksgiving. On Tuesday evening we have a very unique and fun class prepared for you. Katelyn Besler will conduct of first Origami Class. Katelyn studied in Japan and will join us at 7 PM on Tuesday to share the arts of origami and some of her experiences. This is a free class thanks to Katelyn and her mom, Judy. So, come on out for evening of fun. Also, help us spread the word about all of the amazing vendors that will be at ACES on Thursday evening, December 5, from 5 to 8 PM. , for Keep the Cheer Here. ACES will sell hot, homemade Chili and Cornbread, yum, yum and many businesses downtown will be open for this Chamber sponsored event. Come on down for fun, food, and shopping. Remember, our vendors will have those one of a kind item, perfect Christmas gift for that hard to please person on your list. We will be looking forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.

A special thank you to the amazing BISD Nurses. Great job reading to the children and they absolutely loved you. Thanks again to the Brownfield YMCA for providing brand new books for all students in attendance. On Friday, I had the amazing opportunity to taste an incredible pizza at Krank Koffie Co. It was the absolute best pizza I’ve ever eaten. Cub nation you are in for a real treat once they open. Once you taste their delicious pizzas, you will see it was well worth the wait. Special thanks to the Caswells for the enjoyable experience watching you prepare and bake my yummy, heart shaped pizza.

Hey Cub Nation. Join us Tuesday evening at 7 PM for Celebrity Reading with the BISD Nurses. They will also share healthy tips for the cold and flu season. A special thank you to the Brownfield YMCA for the new books that will be given to all children in attendance. “A Season of Giving”,  a wonderful presentation by two amazing organizations last Tuesday evening. To begin the evening, Jeff David, representing Goodfellows, talked about the many ways this organization makes Christmas special for so many families in our community. Contact Jeff Davis to find out how you can support this charitable organization and remember to look for Goodfellows’ boxes throughout our community. Next was Mark Davis and Pastor Josh Puckett, sharing information about the Ministerial Alliance. The Ministerial Alliance provides many services for our community at large. They are also responsible for coordinating joint services during Holy Week, providing scholarships, and so much more. Thanks to all presenters for a very informative evening and all that you do to enrich our community. Special thanks to board members of ACES for preparing tote bags, part 2, filled with necessities that will be given to CPS during this giving season.
