🎉💧 UMS UPDATE: IT'S ALIVE! 💧🎉

After an extended and completely unauthorized vacation that began on April 10, our water billing system has finally decided to return to work! 🖥️👏

While we're thrilled to have it back, it's still in training and not quite ready for all of its responsibilities.

At this time, our online payment portal is still unavailable, so we will continue accepting cash or check payments only for a little while longer.

Please continue to be patient with us as we work through the process of rebuilding and re-entering nearly two months' worth of information into the system. As you can imagine, that's a lot of catching up for both us and our recently returned employee. 😅

We're making great progress, but cleaning up this mess will take some time. We sincerely appreciate everyone's patience, understanding, and kindness throughout this unexpected inconvenience. Your support has meant more than you know.

Thank you for sticking with us while we get everything back on track! 💙

VILLAGE OF BROWNSTOWN CLEAN-UP DAY
FRIDAY, JULY 17, 2026

The Village of Brownstown has announced Village Clean-up Day for Friday, July 17, 2026. Residents who pay the monthly trash fee may participate on this date ONLY and are limited to sitting out the equivalent of ONE PICKUP TRUCK LOAD of unwanted items. Please do not put your items out until Thursday immediately prior to July 17, 2026. Items set out for Clean-up should not block your trash tote; leave space for the tote to be picked up by the truck.
Items that CANNOT be picked up include:
• Insulation
• Paint in wet form
• Chemical cans
• Any Asbestos products
• Electronics (TV, VCR, stereo or computer equipment, refrigerators, freezers or any other appliances)
• Construction or remodel debris of any sort (insulation, shingles, toilets, sinks, lumber, carpet, etc.)
• Car parts (tires, batteries, auto body parts, etc.)
• Bricks, concrete, gravel
• Complete fences (posts and disassembled panels are acceptable)
• Swimming pool liners
The above guidelines will be strictly followed. No Exceptions.
Items of questionable or unknown content will be left at the discretion of the hauler, DBS Disposal. If you have items that you are uncertain about, you can contact DBS Disposal directly at 618-267-5813 and they will advise. Also, if you have an excessive amount (larger than a pickup truck load), you will need to contact DBS Disposal to make arrangements for an extra pick-up and a fee determined by the hauler.
Absolutely NO items can be taken which were not from a source within the Village Limits.
Due to the excessive work load during this clean-up, residents are asked not to park in front of pick-up areas. Items that are not easily accessible will be left. Any item not picked up due to non-compliance with the above rules will become the responsibility of the property owner/tenant.
The Village prohibits rummaging through items set out for Clean-up Day. Extra police patrols will be set in place. Failure to abide will result in a fine.

🚨 UPDATE ON THE WATER BILLING UMS DRIVE 🚨

After calling in sick on April 10th and completely ghosting us for nearly two months, the UMS Drive has finally shown up to work. 😒💻

As you can see, it’s currently sitting quietly at its desk pretending nothing happened.

We’re giving it a few weeks to rebuild trust, catch up on paperwork, and explain where it’s been all this time before we put it back to full duty. 🤝📋

Thank you for your patience while we supervise its return-to-work program. If all goes well, the UMS Drive should be a productive member of society again very soon. 💧

🚨💦 BROWNSTOWN HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE 💦🚨

If you've recently turned on your faucet and wondered why your water looked like it spent the weekend swimming in the Kaskaskia River, you're not alone! 😅

Over time, naturally occurring minerals can build up in our water mains. Recently, some of those minerals decided to break loose and go on an unexpected tour through town, causing the discolored water many of you have noticed.

To help clear things up (literally), the Village of Brownstown will be flushing fire hydrants on June 3rd and June 4th.

The good news? The water is not harmful. The not-so-good news? This may not be the ideal time to wash your favorite white shirt, grandma's tablecloth, or anything you'd like to keep looking white. 👕➡️🤎

During flushing you may notice:
💦 Temporary discoloration
💦 Changes in water pressure
💦 Hydrants showing off their impressive spraying skills

We appreciate everyone's patience as we work to get our water looking more like water and less like sweet tea.

Thank you,
Village of Brownstown

P.S. If your water looks discolored, run cold water for a few minutes and it should clear up. The minerals are just making an uninvited appearance before we send them packing!

Tornado siren: WOOOOOOOOOOO

Me: "Lord, I've wasted so much time."

Facebook: "It's just the monthly test."

Me: "Carry on, then." 🤣

**Just a friendly reminder that it is a test and you don't need to get on your knees and beg for mercy just yet!**

Happy 1st Tuesday!

🚨 ATTENTION: The 330 water bills have officially survived the battle and are in the mail as of today. 🚨

These bills were typed with blood, sweat, and tears… okay, mostly tears. 😂💧

We truly want to apologize for the inconvenience this situation has caused many of our customers. Trust us, we’ve been right there in the trenches with you, armed with keyboards, calculators, and emotional support snacks. Life likes to throw curveballs sometimes, and we’re doing our best to adapt and keep things rolling for our community. ❤️

At this time, we are STILL accepting CASH or CHECK ONLY while our system issues continue. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Village Hall.

Thank you all for being the best water department customers around… even when we test your patience harder than your water pressure. 😉

Need your total or want to pay? Give us a call between 9–3 and we’ll hook you up!

Thanks for hanging in there with us—we promise we’re typing as fast as humanly possible (and maybe fueled by coffee ☕).
