𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗛. 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗱

Long before modern fire codes, inspections, and life safety standards, Patrick H. Raymond helped shape the future of the fire service.

In 1871, Raymond was appointed Fire Chief of the Cambridge Fire Department, becoming the first Black fire chief in the United States. During his leadership, he advocated for stronger fire prevention measures, expanded fire department resources, and pushed for a more professional and effective fire service. He also played a role in the response to the Great Boston Fire of 1872.

What stands out most is his belief that fire protection should be treated as a profession built on preparedness, accountability, and continuous improvement—principles that still guide the industry today.

As fire protection professionals, it's important to recognize the leaders who helped advance the industry and laid the foundation for the life safety standards we rely on today.

A lot of facilities miss required fire life safety inspections and don’t realize it until they receive a citation, fail an inspection, or have a system issue.

Here are 3 simple things you can check today:

1. Check the inspection tags on your equipment.

Look at all your life safety equipment and systems.

You should see an inspection tag attached. Those tags act like a service history for the device — showing past inspections and services performed. If the last inspection date is over a year old (or past the required inspection frequency), there’s a good chance you’ve missed an inspection and need to contact a fire protection company.

2. Make sure you have updated inspection reports.

After an inspection is completed, you should receive a detailed report outlining:

Inspection dates
Deficiencies found
Recommended repairs
Inspector information

These reports are important for insurance providers, fire marshals, and internal compliance records.

3. Has your fire protection company followed up with you?

A good fire protection company doesn’t disappear after the inspection.

If deficiencies were found:

Were they explained clearly?
Were repairs quoted?
Were issues corrected?
Small deficiencies that get ignored often turn into failed inspections, fire watch requirements, or larger repair costs later.

🏌️⛳ Another day, another golf tournament.

We were honored to participate in the New Direction Recovery Golf Tournament alongside our friends from Fayette Baptist Church. Events like this are about more than golf—they're about supporting lives being transformed through recovery, hope, and community.

Thank you to everyone who organized, sponsored, volunteered, and played in this year's tournament. It was a privilege to be part of an event that helps make a difference in the lives of so many individuals and families.

We're grateful for the opportunity to support the mission of New Direction Recovery and look forward to continuing to serve our community together (and to get John out of his mini-Ex for a day - you can see how excited he is)!

A company is only as good as its people, and we’ve got a great group here at Tier 1.

We had an awesome time at our annual summer party this year at our Brownsville office with catered lunch, water slides for the kids, and our yearly co****le tournament.

Last week, we put the finishing touches on the Jimmy Studdard EMS Building in Brownsville, TN!

Our team worked with KCK Contractors on this total remodel installing a new sprinkler system for this facility.
