Local officials outlined strategies to adapt. Bryan Martinez, a Brownsville City Commissioner, said municipalities must diversify water sources and work with partners to reduce demand. He pointed to local ordinances passed during the 2024 drought that raised water-recycling standards for new car wash facilities. “We can’t override state legislation,” Martinez said, “but we can take meaningful steps within our authority.”

Regional leaders from government, agriculture, and public utilities gathered for an RGV Connect forum to discuss water security challenges in the Rio Grande Valley, emphasizing the need for coordinated action as drought conditions persist and demand continues to rise.

The wait is over! With construction on East Avenue wrapping up during Charro Days Week, we’re ready to move forward with the next phase of improvements.

Beginning next week, construction will start on Calle Milpa Verde. 🚧 🚧 🚧

This Southmost arterial road project represents a $331,000 investment in long-overdue infrastructure upgrades. Our City of Brownsville, TX - Municipal Government Engineering and Public Works teams will be replacing outdated concrete curbs along Calle Milpa Verde with new, improved curbing.

By completing this project in-house, we are maximizing taxpayer dollars while improving safety, drainage, and the overall appearance of the street.

Thank you to Mr. Juarez and our EPW team for proactively reaching out to local businesses to keep them informed ahead of construction.

We appreciate our residents’ and businesses’ patience as we continue working to improve our streets and strengthen our neighborhoods.

Viva La Southmost! 🫶

*This decision depends on landing rates and the presence of standing water in those areas. Please note that this is subject to change due to wind speeds (which should not exceed 10 mph) and inclement weather.

As a reminder, we do not enter private properties (both residential and commercial) to apply treatments.
For residential use, mosquito dunks can be purchased at Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowe’s.
