Thank You, Betsy Reid!

Haywood County Schools extends our heartfelt gratitude to Betsy Reid for more than 25 years of dedicated service to HCS.

From supporting our schools as a parent to serving on the HCS Board of Education from 2018–2026—and most recently leading as Board Chair—Betsy has remained a devoted advocate for our students, staff, schools, and community.

Her leadership, commitment, and genuine love for Haywood County Schools have left a lasting impact that will be felt for years to come. While we are sad to see her leave the Board, we are incredibly thankful for the countless hours, thoughtful decisions, and steady support she has given to HCS.

Please join us in thanking Betsy for her remarkable service and wishing her the very best in this next chapter. Once a part of the HCS family, always a part of the HCS family!

Did You Know? CTE Isn’t Just for High School!

Career and Technical Education begins in middle school—and even elementary school—at HCS! Through career exploration and hands-on learning, students discover their interests, strengths, and future opportunities.

Coming soon, our 8th graders will complete career aptitude testing to identify their natural strengths and connect them to potential careers and CTE pathways. These results can help students make more informed choices as they begin planning for high school and beyond.

Each month, we’ll highlight how our students are exploring, learning, and preparing for their futures!

Standardized Dress Reminder for HCS Families

As we continue through the first month of school, we want to offer a friendly reminder that all students should be in full compliance with the HCS Standardized Dress Policy beginning September 11, 2026.

We appreciate our families for working with us during this grace period to make sure students are prepared and ready for a successful school year.

Thank you to our families, community partners, and donors who have helped us make sure students have what they need. Together, we can keep our students focused on learning and ready for success!

Fine Arts Spotlight: Meet the Band!

New Year. New Leadership. Same Tomcat Pride.
Tonight isn’t just the first home football game—it’s also an opportunity to celebrate the students who help bring the sights and sounds of Friday night to life: The Pride of Haywood" Band!

This year, the "The Pride of Haywood" Band begins a new chapter under the leadership of Jacob Ross, and we want our community to get to know the director, the students, and what they are building together.

Tonight, when the Tomcats take the field be sure to cheer for the musicians in the stands and on the field, too! Their hard work, rehearsals, and school spirit are an important part of the Friday night experience.

Course Spotlight: JAG at Haywood High School

Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is more than a course—it is an opportunity for students to discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, explore career pathways, and prepare for success after high school.

Through hands-on learning, career exploration, community service, competitions, and connections with employers, JAG students build essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism. These experiences help students graduate with the confidence and preparation needed to succeed in college, the workforce, the military, or wherever their future takes them.

JAG is an important part of our commitment to ensuring every HCS student is prepared for life beyond the classroom. We are proud of our JAG students and excited to see where their skills, determination, and leadership will take them!
