The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center celebrates and preserves the region’s music, culture, history, and natural landscapes by creating immersive experiences that inspire, educate, and connect West Tennessee’s unique stories. Inside visitors can learn about the history of cotton, explore the scenic and “wild” Hatchie River and get to know the legendary musicians who called West Tennessee home.

Also located on the grounds is Flagg Grove School, the childhood school of Tina Turner, and the last home of Blues pioneer Sleepy John Estes. To learn more about the Center, visit http://www.westtnheritage.com or call 731-779-9000.

Today, Tennessee and the world lost one of its brightest lights.

Dolly Parton never forgot the people, stories and humble beginnings that shaped her. Through her music, generosity and love for her Tennessee home, she showed us that our roots do not limit how far we can go, they give us something meaningful to carry with us.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dolly’s family, friends and all who loved her.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter and the light. Tennessee will always be proud to call you one of our own.

In Haywood County, the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center and Tina Turner Museum preserves and interprets the natural history of Brownsville, as well as its unique musical heritage. Visitors can explore the school that legendary singer Tina Turner attended during her youth or the home of celebrated blues musician, “Sleepy” John Estes.

On crisp spring mornings, hunters pursue wary wild turkeys. Using a variety of crafted calls to mimic the clucks, yelps and purrs of hen turkeys, hunters attempt to lure the male turkey, the gobbler, into gun range. This box call is made from wood found in the Hatchie forests. Authentic tones are easily created when the thin lid is scraped across the top of the box.

Billy Weir is a true West Tennessee music pioneer whose career has spanned more than 60 years. As the first drummer (at the age of 15) for Harold Jenkins before the world knew him as Conway Twitty, Weir helped shape the early days of rockabilly. Also as a gifted guitarist, songwriter, recording engineer and Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee, his lifelong contributions continue to celebrate the rich musical heritage that makes West Tennessee one of America's great music regions.
