Back at Brush Creek 🌿The water is calm, the sky is clear, and the season of data collection has officially begun.

Since 2014, the Council has implemented riparian restorations along these banks, and seasonal monitoring is performed to gather the data showing how those years of restoration are translating into cooler, healthier water for the local ecosystem.

Thanks to Alex Rice for capturing this shot this week while out in the field deploying the temp loggers for the season!

This monitoring work is made possible through our partnership with the (ODA), whose funding supports our data collection efforts.

🌱 It's Urban Ecology Season! We’re very happy to announce that our Urban Ecology program serving local 5th graders has received $14,200 in funding thanks to the generous support from the City of Albany Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation!

“Through field-based learning at Talking Water Gardens, City staff and Council educators work together to provide real-world context, helping students see how stormwater management, wastewater treatment and habitat restoration function collectively to protect local waterways. We appreciate the Council's commitment to keeping this program accessible to Albany schools, and are pleased to contribute to its continued success.” - Joe Deardorff, City of Albany Public Works.

Thank you to the teams at Public Works and Parks & Rec for believing in our mission and partnering with us to grow a healthier ecosystem for our watershed. 🌿✨

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our Roaming Rivers Freshwater Snorkeling Program has received a $18,000 grant from the John and Jean Burlingham Discretionary Fund of Oregon Community Foundation and a $2,000 grant from the Max and Marie Anna Richter Family Fund of Oregon Community Foundation!

Thanks to this funding, The Calapooia Watershed Council will be able to provide more meaningful opportunities for youth served through Jackson Street Youth Services and the Linn County Juvenile Department. This support ensures that the Roaming Rivers program continues to offer immersive, restorative experiences for young people that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and nurtures life-long connections to Oregon’s Freshwater Ecosystems.

Thank you to the Board and donors at the Oregon Community Foundation, for believing in the power of nature-based education and for helping us create transformative experiences for youth in our community!

Today our Executive Director Collin McCandless celebrates his 10th anniversary with the Calapooia Watershed Council! In the watershed council word, this is particularly significant, given the complexities of the work and the shifting priorities through time. Over the last 10 years, Collin has served the CWC staff, board and service area constituents with transparency, integrity and dedication. Thank you, Collin, and congratulations!

If you're looking to connect with the outdoors and community this spring, Earth Month is the perfect opportunity!
Oregonians can make tangible impacts this year through events like the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge, where participants contribute to global biodiversity research by simply documenting wildlife in their communities. Park cleanups across the state offer another way to give back, ensuring that Oregon’s natural spaces remain healthy and accessible for all. Here's a list of events from the Oregon Environmental Council and OSU where you can take part in Earth Month locally, and support the wildlife, land, water, and air that make our state so special.
