Brownsville Independent School District Brownsville ISD, encompassing 95 square miles, educates over 33,500 students.

The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) serves the largest city and student population in the Rio Grande Valley. Approximately 6,000 employees have accepted the challenge of serving a population of over 37,898 students. The district recognizes and addresses the unique cultural lifestyle of South Texas with a broad selection of activities and programs for all students. These programs ran

ge from early college high schools to support programs for students with special needs. There is pride in the progress BISD has made with regard to state-mandated testing. Better scores have translated into more seniors fulfilling degree requirements and graduating college and career-ready. Academically, both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Education Agency have accredited Brownsville public schools.

There were plenty of smiles and happy tears at Benavides Elementary as KRGV surprised Ms. Lucy Martin as its first Teacher Tuesday honoree of the school year! 🎉

Nominated by a parent, Ms. Martin was surrounded by family, friends, current and former colleagues, and her students as she received the special recognition.
