The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) serves the largest city and student population in the Rio Grande Valley. Approximately 6,000 employees have accepted the challenge of serving a population of over 37,898 students. The district recognizes and addresses the unique cultural lifestyle of South Texas with a broad selection of activities and programs for all students. These programs ran

ge from early college high schools to support programs for students with special needs. There is pride in the progress BISD has made with regard to state-mandated testing. Better scores have translated into more seniors fulfilling degree requirements and graduating college and career-ready. Academically, both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Education Agency have accredited Brownsville public schools.

Principals and GEAR UP Coordinators spent two meaningful days at the Building Leadership Institute Summer 2026, learning, collaborating, and strengthening our commitment to student success.

The theme, “Empowering Educators for Student Success,” reminds us that when we grow as leaders, we create stronger opportunities for our students. These two days gave us time to reflect, plan, and align our work so we can continue building systems that support students academically, socially, and emotionally.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn together and return to our campuses with renewed purpose, stronger partnerships, and a shared commitment to helping every student succeed.

🌟 Texas ACE Summer Learning in Action! 🌟

Students from Perez Elementary, Burns Elementary, and Paredes Elementary enjoyed an exciting day filled with hands-on learning and creativity. Using their science knowledge, students designed and created LED light-up cards while exploring the basics of circuits and electricity. Others had fun making their own marshmallow ice cream cones, combining creativity with a tasty summer treat.

Students also investigated the unique properties of matter through an engaging Oobleck activity, discovering how this fascinating substance can act like both a liquid and a solid.

Learning, exploration, and fun continue to make our Texas ACE Summer Program a memorable experience for all! 💡🍦🧪✨
