A new law goes into effect today 7/15/2026 to help protect first responders:
Senate Bill 104 – Creates a 25-foot buffer zone around first responders engaged in official duties and clarifies rules to minimize disruptions during emergency responses.

Applies to police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and other personnel.

Impeding a first responder after violating a verbal warning is a misdemeanor charge for the first three offenses and a Class D felony on each subsequent offense.

Official Fraud Notice: Federal Warrant Telephone Scam

Scammers are contacting citizens and falsely claiming they have active federal warrants for failing to report for federal grand jury subpoenas. The callers impersonate U.S. Marshals or other law enforcement officers to demand information or payment.

Please review these critical safety facts:

-Law enforcement will never call to demand money or threaten arrest over missed jury duty.

-Federal warrants are never handled via spontaneous phone requests for personal data.

-Do not disclose personal data, financial details, or credit card numbers to these callers.

-If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately.

July 3rd-July 6th

In an effort to enhance highway safety in Edmonson County and target areas of high traffic safety issues including impaired driving offenses, the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office has the following pre-approved traffic safety checkpoint locations:

1. KY 728 at Nolin Dam Overlook
2. Intersection of KY 259 and KY 70 (Brownsville City Limits)
3. Intersection of S Main St and KY 70 (Brownsville City Limits)
4. Intersection of US 31-W KY KY259
5. Intersection of KY 101 and KY 743 (New Grove Road)

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) both endorse checkpoints as effective traffic safety programs. Studies have found that checkpoints reduce alcohol-related traffic crashes by about 20 percent. Another study showed that checkpoints reduce ALL crashes by 10 to 15 percent! Checkpoints are not just effective at deterring potential impaired drivers, but they also serve as an effective method for enforcing driver licensing, vehicle registration, and vehicle insurance laws! The US Supreme Court held in 1990 that traffic safety checkpoints are not an impermissible violation of the Fourth Amendment so long as advance notice is provided to the public.
