After all these months of researching, talking to people, and lots and lots of prayers, the one thing I have learned from this experience that I will take with me and share is that our founding fathers knew what they were doing. Government should be by the people, we have the RIGHT to vote for who we want in office, it should be for the people, government should be tailored to fit the needs of the community, not just for the sake of change or to try and make the community change - it should focus on and say to the rest of the world what our strengths are and highlight the wonderful diversity and talent we have in Haywood County, and we should never let anyone stay in a position that thinks they are smarter than or are superior to the people who put them there in the first place. This is OUR home, OUR community, and EVERY ONE of us, no matter what our social or financial standing, have equal status. This election showed me that some people I trusted are not so trustworthy and some people I respected no longer deserve that respect or trust. It also showed me that 2,881 people joined me at the polls to stand up for what we believe in. I'm counting on them and those who for whatever reason did not make it to the polls this time to stand up and help us change the landscape in Haywood politics.
