Hello friends!

We just wanted to give some information about scams. Recently and over the last couple years we and law enforcement agencies around the country have taken a large number of reports regarding people getting scammed out of money.

One of the most common scams is someone claiming to be from the IRS. They state you are delinquent on your taxes and threaten to send local law enforcement to arrest you if you do not pay. I have received one of these calls on my personal cell phone. I went along with it for close to an hour to understand all the tactics they may use on someone. Eventually they got the idea that they were not going to get money from me and hung up.

Here is what I learned:
-They are very persistant.
-Will ask you how much money is in your bank account.
-Ask you for sesitive information such as drivers license photo, social security number, banking account information.
-They are very threatening if you dont give them what they want. Tell you again and again they will send the local police if you don't cooperate.
-They will ask you to go to the bank and get thousands of dollars out in cash. Tell you to go to a local store such as Best Buy to purchase ITUNES gift card.
-At this point they will ask you to read off all the numbers on the back of those cards.
-In some cases when they have gotten money out of someone they will call day after day until the person finally says no to getting more money out or their entire bank account is drained.
-If the IRS is truly after you for tax debt this is not the way they will handle that business with you.

Once the numbers have been given to the scammer they can get all the money that was on it in seconds and it's is extremely difficult to find out where it went to. Most cases the money is in another country and law enforcement here cannot do a whole lot about it.

This is just one type of scam we have dealt with. Others include someone claiming to be the Sheriff and a family member of yours is in jail and the Sheriff will release them if they get money and put it on ITUNES gift cards.

The common denominator here is they will ask you to pay a debt through some type of gift card. This is not a practice that any legitimate business uses for payment. Please be aware. If something does not seem right then do not go through with it. Call the police department or the Sheriff's Office and speak with an officer if you have concerns. Don't allow these terrible people to victimize you or your family. Please pass this information along to everyone you know so this trend stops!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Stay safe!
