As temperatures rise and the sun starts to stick around a little longer, so does the risk for spring wildfires. Even a small, controlled burn can quickly get out of hand this time of year due to dry grass, leaves, and changing winds. 🌬🍂

Before starting any outdoor burning or campfires, be sure to check the current permit status using the Michigan DNR Burn Permits Map. Burn restrictions can change daily, and it’s your responsibility to know before you light.

If you are going burn, be sure to do the following:

🔥 Keep a water source nearby (hose, buckets, etc.)
🔥 Keep tools handy (shovel, rake, etc.) to control spread
🔥 Clear any dry grass/leaves from around burn piles
🔥 Keep fires small and manageable
🔥 Supervise the fire at all times — NEVER leave any fire unattended
🔥 Fully extinguish the fire with water and stir ashes until cool to the touch before leaving

Saturday's event was truly a full house! The Ewen and Bruce Crossing Volunteer Fire Departments extend their thanks to all the community members in attendance, all the area businesses and individual donors for their donations, and all of those that volunteer their time to help put on the event.

All donations will go directly to each department for gear and equipment to help us better serve our communities. We could not do what we do without your support! Thank you!

This Veterans Day, we proudly recognize the men and women who have served our country with honor and courage.

We are grateful for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to others.

The Ewen-Trout Creek School District Veterans Day Program starts at 10 a.m. Please consider attending if you're able. The students always put on a great program and a great meal is served afterwards!

Daylight savings time is a great reminder to replace the batteries in your home's smoke alarms! ⚠️🔋

To ensure they are working properly when you need them most, change the batteries in all of your home's smoke alarms twice a year. 👍👨‍🚒

Always remember to test your home's smoke alarms monthly. Batteries can go dead, pop loose, or start to corrode without your knowing! 🔋

Smoke alarms should be placed on every level of your home, inside of each bedroom, and outside of every sleeping area on all floors. 🛌 ✅️

To avoid frequent false alarms, avoid placing alarms directly in kitchens or near bathrooms. Hot steam/air from cooking or showering can set them off! 🍳🛀
