As temperatures rise and the sun starts to stick around a little longer, so does the risk for spring wildfires. Even a small, controlled burn can quickly get out of hand this time of year due to dry grass, leaves, and changing winds. π¬π
Before starting any outdoor burning or campfires, be sure to check the current permit status using the Michigan DNR Burn Permits Map. Burn restrictions can change daily, and itβs your responsibility to know before you light.

If you are going burn, be sure to do the following:
π₯ Keep a water source nearby (hose, buckets, etc.)
π₯ Keep tools handy (shovel, rake, etc.) to control spread
π₯ Clear any dry grass/leaves from around burn piles
π₯ Keep fires small and manageable
π₯ Supervise the fire at all times β NEVER leave any fire unattended
π₯ Fully extinguish the fire with water and stir ashes until cool to the touch before leaving
Stay safe, stay aware, and help us protect our community, homes, and forests. π₯π
