The American flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The American flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. American soldiers don't fight because they hate what's in front of them... they fight because they love what's behind them.

Working as a grade school teacher in Waubeka, Wisconsin, in 1885, Bernard J. Cigrand held the first recognized formal observance of Flag Day at the Stony Hill School. The school has been restored, and a bust of Cigrand also honors him at the National Flag Day Americanism Center in Waubeka.

To fly a flag at half staff, it must first be hoisted to the top of the pole and held there a few seconds, then lowered to half staff for the day. When it is time to take down the flag, it should again be raised to full mast and held for a few seconds, then lowered and folded properly.

Our post family hopes that everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day Services (depsite the cold wind and bit of rain at Hillside Cemetary). Everyone stayed through it all and it made the Post Members even prouder, that you did. Thanks to the American Legion Auxiliary for the beautiful wreath presentation at Evergreen Cemetary, and the awesome lunch at thier post home afterwards.
