Tomorrow, students in grades 3-8 will take the math component of the West Virginia General Summative Assessment. It's important for students to be on time to school as state testing rules do not allow late students to begin testing once testing has begun. Please make sure that your child eats breakfast and gets a good night's sleep. Students also need to make sure their laptops are fully charged. While we want our students to do their best on the test, we understand that this test is just one snapshot in time of their abilities.

State Testing has been underway across Preston County, and the results are already coming in. If your student has taken their Math or Science Assessment (Grades 5 and 8 Only), then his/her results are available upon test completion. ELA could take up to 10 days, as some of the writing portion has to be hand-scored at the state level. At the end of this week, your student will be bringing home a letter with instructions to login to the testing portal results, as we no longer send paper copies home.

You will no longer be receiving a paper copy of your student’s state testing results. Those are now available online at the following website:
https://wv.portal.cambiumast.com/families.html
Once at the site, you will need to provide your student’s first name, date of birth, and 6-digit access code (provided above). Once you type in the information and hit sign-in, it will walk you through the rest. If you are having any issues or have any questions, please contact Justin Hough, Director of Child Nutrition, Communications and Testing at [email protected], or 304-329-0580 x3234 between 7:30-3:30.

Today in science, Mrs. Walsh’s students learned about how their eyes work through hands-on experiments and observations! Students used wallet magnifiers to discover that our eyes actually see images upside down, and our brains turn them right side up.

They then turned our magnifiers into functioning “eyes” with a retina. As students experimented, they discovered that when the retina is too close or too far from the lens, the image becomes blurry. This helped them better understand how vision works and why some people experience blurry eyesight.

The kids absolutely loved getting to see the science in action and making real-world connections through their own observations and discoveries!
