Today, the Brumley Fire Protection District responded to a motor vehicle accident that required a coordinated response from multiple public safety agencies.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Miller County Sheriff’s Office, Miller County Ambulance District, and Miller County E-911 for their assistance throughout the incident.

A special thank you goes to Tuscumbia Fire Protection District and Iberia Fire Protection District for providing traffic control during the extended roadway closure. Due to the complexity of the incident and the challenges involved with vehicle recovery, the roadway remained closed longer than usual, requiring additional personnel and resources.

Incidents like this are a reminder that emergency response is truly a team effort. We are grateful for the professionalism, dedication, and cooperation of our mutual aid partners. Working together allows us to provide the highest level of service to our community, and we couldn’t do it without each of you.

The Brumley Fire Protection District extends our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and friends of former firefighter Levi Bowlin.

Levi proudly served our community as a volunteer firefighter from 2019 to 2022, answering the call to help others with dedication and compassion. His service to the Brumley community will always be remembered and appreciated.

Levi John Bowlin, age 35, of Brumley, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026. He was born in Osage Beach on August 22, 1990, son of Ronald Ray and Cindy (Thomas) Bowlin.

Levi served as a volunteer firefighter with the Brumley Fire Department Protection District and was employed for Express Auto Glass in Lebanon as an auto glass technician. Levi found joy in the outdoors and especially loved spending time hunting and fishing. Above all, Levi loved his family deeply, and the time he spent with them was among the greatest joys of his life.

He is survived by his children Kailee Bowlin Rowden, Addyson Bowlin, and Emerson Bowlin; mother, Cindy Bowlin; brothers, Ethan (Cora) Bowlin, Cory Bowlin, Ronald Bowlin, and Troy (Melisa) Bowlin; sister, Jessie Ash; maternal grandmother, Carolyn Ogle; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Bowlin; paternal grandparents, Robert and Marilyn Bowlin; maternal grandfather, Leonard Thomas; and step-grandfather, Scotty Ogle; and uncle, Mike Thomas.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 20, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment will be held in Gott Cemetery in Ulman.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Levi Bowlin Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.

May 6th Brumley firefighters and one Miller County Ambulance District EMT attended landing zone operations training with MU-2 out of Osage Beach. This helps keep everyone safe on the scene when helicopter is utilized. Thank you MU-2 - Osage Beach, MO for your time and knowledge.

Training the communities we serve in landing zone operations and aircraft safety is a major part of keeping both emergency crews and patients safe during air medical responses.

When agencies practice:

-establishing and securing helicopter landing zones,
-coordinating radio communication,
-managing bystanders and traffic,
-identifying hazards like wires, debris, and uneven terrain,
-understanding rotor safety around medical helicopters,

they reduce the risk of accidents during already high-stress emergencies.

In rural communities, volunteer fire departments are often the first on scene, so their preparation can make a critical difference in how quickly and safely patients are transported by air ambulance.

Open burning today is highly discouraged due to low humidity, wind gusts and dry conditions.

An unseasonably warm and dry airmass with low afternoon humidity values in the 20% range in addition to dry to very dry grass conditions will result in an elevated fire risk today and again on Sunday.

Thank you Miller County LEPC

Recently, the Miller County Local Emergency Planning Committee(LEPC) was awarded a grant from the Missouri Emergency Response Commission in the amount of $14,330.07 for various items to mitigate hazardous material incidents. Today, the first delivery of the grant was made and 70 bags of granular absorbent were distributed to the seven participating fire departments of the Miller County LEPC. Other items expected in the near future are Drum Patch & Repair Kits, a Dome Clamp, 4-Gas Detectors with a Calibration Unit, Absorbent Mat Pads and Booms.

‼️⚠️ New Red Flag warning is now in effect for much of Missouri Thursday afternoon and early evening.
⚠️ The combination of low humidity, strong westerly winds, and dry vegetation will support dangerous fire behavior.
⚠️A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for parts of northern Missouri until 7PM tonight.
