🌟 Life Saver Award Presentation 🌟
At yesterday’s Trustees meeting, Assistant Chief Tim Haas—along with Cleveland Clinic Medical Control Dr. Ruhlin and EMS Coordinator Mike Savetski—proudly presented Firefighters Jacob Curtis, Nick Mehalic, Andrew Pavell, Christian Murray, Chris Kavulic, and Andrew Cellura with a Life Saver Award for their heroic actions on a critical medical call this past May.
The department was dispatched to a local restaurant for a choking female. Bystanders immediately initiated abdominal thrusts until Fire Inspector Kavulic, who was down the road conducting an inspection, arrived on scene to take over care. By that time, the patient had gone into cardiac arrest, and CPR was initiated. Crew members from both stations responded rapidly.
Thanks to the quick-thinking bystanders who knew how to act, combined with the prompt response and advanced care from our paramedics, the patient not only regained a pulse and independent breathing on scene, but was discharged from the hospital just a few days later with minimal health issues.
These types of positive outcomes are incredibly rare in cardiac arrest cases. We would like to recognize and thank everyone who had a hand in saving this life.
Early recognition, immediate bystander intervention, and high-quality CPR save lives. If you or your organization are interested in CPR classes, please reach out to:
