This morning we take pause and remember our loved ones, neighbors, and community leaders - those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Today is a day of remembrance and honoring.

While we gather in smaller groups, we can share the experience of honoring those who served and those whom we’ve lost. This year, we can come together through our virtual Memorial Day Observances, “Community Defines.”

Watch the observances online at: MemorialDayCommittee.org/community-defines.

As we have done for many years prior to COVID, we gathered, lining the streets of Brunswick and Topsham, overlooking the historic mills, and standing above the mighty Androscoggin. We gather to honor, celebrate, and remember those who have served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice. As was the case with last year, we will observe and honor virtually.

Given the guidance on large group gatherings and the time needed to plan and organize signature events such as the parade and observances, we will be honoring and remembering with a virtual event this year.

The “Community Defines” 2021 Memorial Day Observances can be viewed online at MemorialDayCommittee.org/community-defines.

We know that for many these services are an important part of the honoring and remembrance of loved ones and we hope that we can help bring those important moments to you.

Memorial Day 2020 is taking an unexpected form. Our commitment to remember and honor the men and women of our armed forces is no less important. This year, our team and community came together to produce socially distant, online observances.

You may watch today’s Brunswick-Topsham Memorial Day Observances online at: https://memorialdaycommittee.org/covid19/ , on Brunswick Cable TV3 throughout the day, or on American Legion Post 202's Facebook Live stream at 11:30am.

Thank you to our many partners in making this happen: Brunswick American Legion Post 20, Boy Scout Troop 202, Two Bridges Regional Jail Honor Guard, American Legion District 8, American Legion Post 202, The Merrymeeting Community Band, Brunswick Maine Fire Department, Brunswick, Maine Police Department, Town of Brunswick, Topsham Fire & Rescue, Topsham Police Department, and Town of Topsham.

Friends and Neighbors:

Each year, we gather to honor, celebrate, and remember those who have served our country and lost their lives as a result. Each year, we gather along the historic streets of Brunswick and Topsham, on the mall, and along the river to celebrate the lives of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. This year, we will observe and honor for the same reason, however, our observances might look a little different.

Out of an abundance of caution, and in compliance with the Governor’s stay at home and socially distancing orders, the Brunswick-Topsham Memorial Day Parade and Observances will happen virtually. The safety of our community, participants, and committee is always at the center of our work. Our team is working diligently with partners in the community to share observances with our community to honor and celebrate those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This year, we will be unable to hold our annual parade, however, there are still ways for you, your family, and your community to celebrate and honor. We encourage you to visit the resting places of loved ones who served, hold mini-parades in your neighborhood for veterans living nearby, share what Memorial Day means to you on your social media, and tune in to our virtual observances on Memorial Day.

We know that for many these services are an important part of the honoring and remembrance of loved ones and we hope that we can help bring those important moments into your home.

Keep an eye on our website for updates: MemorialDayCommittee.org/covid19.

Sincerely,
Brunswick-Topsham Memorial Day Committee
