A general fyi when putting on a new roof in colder temperatures is that once the temperature get below about 45 degrees, the shingles will not adhere and seal nearly as well (and the colder it gets - not at all). This could leave you with shingles laying all over your and your neighbor's yard when the wind comes; which also means your roof won't have the barrier it needs for the winter elements.
Depending on the temperature, it could take a few hours (a really hot day), to a couple of weeks for them to seal well. However, on a sunny day when the the temperatures are cold, shingles are able to absorb the heat of the sun and still seal.

Doing a project close to the property line? As this has come up from time to time with property owners here in town, and has been a point of confusion and at times contention, as a general good practice (and being a good neighbor), we recommend talking to your neighbor about any project that is going to be close to the property line so they are aware, and any concerns they may have are able to be expressed and hopefully mutually resolved.
Whether its a fence, a shed, landscaping or something else, you could be unnecessarily blocking a favorite view, running stormwater into someone's yard (not allowed), or putting something too close for comfort (a 2' setback from the property line is what most accessory structures are supposed to be).
We understand that it's the landowner's right to do what they'd like with their land (as long as it abides with governing standards); but as a community, we also know that what one does can impact another in a variety of ways. So for the sake of community, we encourage you to have those reasonable considerations of one another.

Extensive hail damage around Brush!! We have excellent roofers in the area, but this storm will also bring a lot of new roofers into town offering roof repair and replacement services.
NOTE: Every contractor doing work in Brush!, including roofers, are required to register as contractors with the Brush! Community Development office to ensure they are properly insured and doing work according to building code standards, and not taking advantage of our citizens.
NOTE: You have the right to ask them questions!
If someone comes knocking at your door offering repairs or replacement of your roof, you can contact us to ask if they are registered with the City, 842-5002 or email us either [email protected] or [email protected].

Remove The Screen From Your Dryer Vent!

With October being Fire Safety Month, there's no better time to discuss the potential adverse conditions having a screen on your dryer vent can cause.

The screens trap lint.
Trapped lint reduces airflow.
A significant backup of lint can form into the heating element of the appliance.
Lint buildup can cause machine inefficiency which negatively impact your electricity bill.
Finally, and most importantly, dryer fires can occur from issues caused by dryer vent screens.
