Some keep asking why are we doing this?

“Preserving historic buildings is crucial to retaining our nation's heritage and history. It is also environmental and practical, basically large scale recycling. It reduces the need for new materials and the other costs of demolition”.

Central Platoon School has some of the most beautiful architecture that you do not find anymore in new construction. Look close, beyond the broken windows. Buildings like this bring in tourism for people who enjoy history. This building has so many stories which many of you have so graciously shared. People travel to Europe just to see their historic buildings and the awe of their beauty.
Why can’t we have that here in Brush, CO?

We can visualize that beauty again. We are working diligently with History Colorado, Colorado Endangered Places, Colorado Historical Society, EPA’s Brownfields Program and anyone else that will listen to us.

We have been told over and over again that the building is structurally sound. We have sent out an RFP to more than 30 developers. This is a huge project and everything takes time. Everyone working on this has other jobs. We wish we could commit 24/7 to this project.

One large section of many of the grants that we are applying for includes community support. If you have a love for this building as we do, write us a letter of support, volunteer your time, treasure and/or talent. The more support we receive the better our chances at receiving funding.

Thank you in advance for your support!!

We have made it through the preliminary qualifications on the Brownfield Cleanup grant, now on to the review stage!! Yay!!!!

02/03/2019

The Brownfield Cleanup grant deadline was Thursday, Jan 31. We hit the Submit button with 2 hrs and 45 min to spare. This grant, if we are approved, will give us funding and allow us to go in and clean up the inside of the building. Hope to know for sure by Aug 1.

Next we will apply for the History Colorado grant that is due April 1. This grant will help us to get the building secured. Broken windows, roof leaks, shoring up the NW corner of the building.

Wish us luck!!
