MEDIA RELEASE: Month-Long Investigation Results in Arrest of Business Owner and Revocation of Alcohol and To***co Licenses:

In early March, the Brusly Police Department received a complaint that Ramez Smoke Shop (142 N. Vaughan Drive) had sold alcohol to a juvenile. The complaint, made by the juvenileโ€™s mother, also indicated it was widely known among juveniles that the store sold v**es and alcohol to minors.

Detectives notified the Louisiana Alcohol and To***co Control (ATC) and began an investigation, including surveillance.

On April 2, 2026, detectives observed a juvenile male enter the business and exit after purchasing a v**e. His driverโ€™s license confirmed he was underage. Detectives made contact with the store clerk/owner, who admitted to the sale. He was arrested and issued a misdemeanor summons.

Approximately two hours later, detectives observed another juvenile enter the store and purchase a six-pack of alcohol. A traffic stop was conducted, revealing a 16-year-old driver and 12-year-old passenger. The driver confirmed he purchased the alcohol from the same clerk.

The clerk/owner was arrested again and transported to the West Baton Rouge Detention Center, where he was booked for unlawful sale of v**e products and alcohol to a minor. He remained in custody for approximately one week, during which time the business was closed.

On April 14, 2026, Louisiana ATC revoked the storeโ€™s alcohol and to***co licenses pending a hearing scheduled for next month.

Itโ€™s been less than a week since WBR opened its new pickle ball courts to the public and only a few months since canopies, upgrades to bleachers, and new turf fields were installed. We are disappointed to share with you that our department has received multiple reports of vandalism to Alexander Park such as profanities being etched into the pickle ball courts and juveniles on four wheelers damaging the turf fields.

BE ADVISED: Surveillance cameras are installed at the park and more will be put up; along with an increase in officer patrols. Our department will be investigating all vandalism complaints and violators WILL be prosecuted accordingly.

Promoting Autism Awareness and Officer Preparedness Through Additional Training ๐Ÿงฉ๐Ÿ’™:

Throughout the months of March and April, officers with the Brusly Police Department are wearing blue badges to help raise awareness and show support for individuals and families affected by autism in our community.

Autism Awareness Month is an opportunity to promote understanding, acceptance, and compassion for those on the autism spectrum. Our department is proud to stand alongside the families, educators, and advocates who work every day to make our community more inclusive for everyone.

In addition, officers will be receiving additional training focused on recognizing and appropriately interacting with individuals with autism. This training helps ensure our officers are better prepared to respond with patience, understanding, and effective communication when serving members of the autism community.

The Brusly Police Department remains committed to serving all members of our community with care, respect, and understanding. Together, we can continue building a safer and more supportive place for everyone. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘ฎ
