For many Veterans, a service dog is more than a companion—they're a highly trained partner providing greater independence, safety, confidence, and support every single day. Service dogs can be trained to assist with a wide range of needs, including PTSD, mobility limitations, medical alerts, and more.

This month, we celebrate the incredible dogs, trainers, organizations, and handlers behind these life-changing partnerships. ❤️🐕‍🦺

🎗️ September is National Su***de Prevention Month.

This month, we're reminding our Veteran community of something that matters every day of the year: you don't have to carry everything alone.

Su***de prevention isn't only about what happens in a moment of crisis. It's checking on the friend who's gotten quiet. It's noticing when someone isn't quite themselves. It's making the phone call, sending the text, sitting down for coffee, and being willing to ask, “Are you okay?”

And you don't have to have the perfect words or be a mental health professional to make a difference. Sometimes being willing to listen is where it starts.

The Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7, and Veterans do not need to be enrolled in VA health care to reach out.

Throughout September, we'll be sharing information and resources focused on su***de prevention, mental health, recognizing warning signs, and supporting the Veterans in our community.

🍰 A sweet surprise on a very busy Monday!

Mondays at the County Veteran Service Office can be go, go, go—back-to-back walk-ins rolling straight into afternoon appointments, sometimes leaving our staff wondering when lunch is actually going to happen. 😅

So a huge THANK YOU to Krista Murray and Mari Holmes for providing some much-needed sweet treats for the office today! And an extra thank you to Krista for the surprise visit and delivery—it was exactly the little pick-me-up our crew needed in the middle of a busy day. ❤️

The treats Krista brought were such a hit that Ben even saved half of his to take home and share with his wife! 🥰

Sometimes a small act of kindness makes a BIG difference. Thank you both for thinking of us and making our Monday a little sweeter! ❤️

Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps Reserve! 🇺🇸🌎🦅⚓

Today we recognize the proud legacy of the Marine Corps Reserve, established on August 29, 1916. For more than a century, Reserve Marines have stood ready to answer our nation's call—serving alongside active-duty forces in times of war, national emergencies, humanitarian missions, and communities across the country.

From World War I to today's global missions, Marine Reservists have exemplified the Marine Corps values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, proving that when duty calls, they are always ready to serve.

To all who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor as members of the Marine Corps Reserve—past and present—thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering service to our nation.

🤝Connecting With Our Community to Better Serve Our Veterans

Yesterday evening, Assistant Veteran Service Officer Diana attended the B/CS Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours — because sometimes the connections made outside the office can become resources for the Veterans who walk through our doors.

Diana had the opportunity to meet Glen Brewer, President & CEO of the BCS Chamber of Commerce, as well as Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez. She especially enjoyed learning more about Mayor Gutierrez’s involvement with Brazos Valley Cares and their work supporting Veterans and their families in our community. 🇺🇸

Events like Business After Hours give our office an opportunity to build relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, community leaders, and organizations we may be able to connect Veterans with down the road.

Veteran services don’t happen in a bubble. The stronger our community connections are, the more resources and relationships we have to draw from when a Veteran needs help.

We’re proud to keep building those connections throughout the Brazos Valley. 💙

You don’t have to know what form you need before you come see us.

You don’t have to understand VA language.

You don’t have to know whether something should be a new claim, increase, supplemental claim, Higher-Level Review, or appeal.

And you definitely don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

That’s kind of the point of having a Veteran Service Office. 😊

🐶 Happy National Dog Day from Brazos County Veteran Services! 🐾

We spend a lot of time around here talking about VA benefits, claims, and serving our Veteran community…but today we need your help with a very different issue.

Our office is currently outnumbered by cat people. 😳

Kale: Cats. 🐱
Ben: Cats. 🐱
Diana: DOGS. Obviously. 🐶🐶

So in honor of National Dog Day, Diana is officially requesting backup. 😂

Did you know qualifying disabled Veterans can receive the Texas Disabled Veteran Super Combo Hunting and All-Water Fishing Package for FREE?

🇺🇸 Who qualifies?

A disabled Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces who:

• Has a service-connected disability rating of 50% or greater, OR has a service-connected disability consisting of the loss of use of a foot or leg, AND
• Is receiving compensation from the United States for the disability.

🎣 What’s included in the FREE Disabled Veteran Super Combo Package?

The package includes a hunting and fishing license plus five state endorsements:

🏹 Resident Hunting License
🎣 Resident Fishing License
🏹 Archery Endorsement
💧 Freshwater Fishing Endorsement
🌊 Saltwater Fishing Endorsement with a Red Drum Tag
🦃 Upland Game Bird Endorsement

⚠️ NOT INCLUDED: The Federal Duck Stamp is not included and is still required for waterfowl hunting.

If you stopped by for Walk-In Day today and noticed Kale was holding down the fort all by himself, we hope you gave him a little extra grace! 😅

Our Admin Assistant, Ben, is enjoying some well-deserved time with family, and Assistant VSO Diana made a special trip to Waco today to visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office for one very important reason—to pick up her federal government ID! 🇺🇸

Diana has been serving veterans as a Brazos County employee since May and earned her accreditation earlier this summer, but becoming fully established on the federal side comes with a few more steps…and, naturally, a healthy dose of the military classic: “hurry up and wait.” 😂

Today marks the completion of that process! With all required tasks complete and her federal ID officially in hand, Diana has crossed another milestone in her role as an accredited Assistant Veteran Service Officer.

We’re incredibly proud of Diana and excited to have another piece of the puzzle officially complete as she continues serving the veterans and families of Brazos County. ❤️🤍💙

And Kale…thanks for flying solo today! We promise we didn’t ALL abandon you. 😆
