What is one VA benefit you wish you had known about sooner?

For many veterans, it's hearing aids.
For others, it's VA home loans, disability compensation, education benefits, or survivor benefits.

Your answer could help another veteran discover a benefit they didn't know existed.

💬 Share your answer in the comments!

And if you have questions about benefits you've earned, the Brazos County Veteran Services Office is here to help—at no cost.

🎂🇺🇸 There’s still time to celebrate!

Tomorrow, Friday, June 12, the George and Barbara Bush Foundation and George Bush Presidential Library and Museum will honor the birthdays of President George H.W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush, and it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a fun outing with family and friends.

Stop by for:
📖 Story hours with special community guests
🎂 Complimentary birthday cake and refreshments
🍽️ A special menu at Daisystabletx inspired by one of the Bushes’ favorite dishes

Visitors will also get a sneak peek at the exciting America250 events coming to our community during Independence Day weekend.

Our own Assistant VSO, Diana Mills, had the chance to sample the special menu alongside Ellen Fuller, co-founder of Brazos Valley Wreaths Across America, and her husband, Wayne—and it did not disappoint!

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to spend part of your Friday, we encourage you to stop by, celebrate the lives and legacy of President and Mrs. Bush, and enjoy everything this special event has to offer.

We hope to see you there! ❤️🤍💙

🏆 A Well-Deserved Honor for an Outstanding Team Member! 🇺🇸

Today, our Administrative Assistant, Benjamin Holmes, was surprised during Commissioners Court as he was presented with the 2026 Texas Veterans Commission Support Staff of the Year Award for:

"Providing exemplary service to staff and the veteran community."

This prestigious honor was presented during the Texas Veterans Commission Claims Conference and recognizes the top support staff member among both Texas Veterans Commission offices and County Veteran Service Offices across the entire State of Texas. Benjamin was the sole recipient of this award for 2026, making this an extraordinary achievement.

Anyone who has worked with Ben knows that his dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for our veterans make him an invaluable part of our team. From assisting veterans and their families to keeping our office running smoothly behind the scenes, his impact is felt every single day.

Please join us in congratulating Benjamin Holmes on this incredible and well-deserved recognition! Thank you for your unwavering commitment to serving those who served. ❤️🤍💙

🇺🇸 Did You Know?

If you’re preparing to leave the military, you may be able to file your VA disability claim before you separate through the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program.

✅ File your claim 180 to 90 days before discharge
✅ Complete VA exams while still on active duty
✅ Potentially receive your disability decision sooner after separation
✅ Start the transition to veteran status with less stress

To qualify, service members generally must have a known separation date and be available for VA examinations before leaving service.

The sooner you start the process, the smoother your transition can be.

📞 If you’re separating from service and have questions about VA disability benefits, contact Brazos County Veteran Services at 979-361-4159. We’re here to help.

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and bravery of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

Their sacrifice changed the course of history and secured freedoms we must never take for granted.

May we always honor those who served, those who gave everything, and the families who carried their legacy forward.

Lest we forget. 🇺🇸
