Fourteen years ago today, on August 13, 2012, at approximately 1211 hours, Brazos County Precinct One Constable Brian Bachmann was shot and killed while attempting to serve an eviction notice to an individual in the 200 block of Fidelity Street in College Station.

The individual being served shot Constable Bachmann as he approached the residence and then went outside and shot him again at point-blank range. The individual then barricaded himself inside the residence. Over the next 25 minutes, he fired approximately 65 rounds at law enforcement officers and citizens in the area.

Two of our SWAT officers were eventually able to advance on the residence and neutralize the individual. Before the incident ended, three CSPD officers had been injured, including one officer who was shot in the ankle and seriously injured. One citizen was shot and killed, and another citizen was shot and critically injured.

Today, we remember and honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Brazos County Precinct One Constable Brian Bachmann. His dedication to serving his community and protecting others will not be forgotten.

As we reflect on the events of August 13, 2012, we remember Constable Bachmann and all those whose lives were forever impacted that day.

If you ever got to know Harland Pope you were blessed with a wonderful presence of a human. An incredible police officer for many years. Bryan Police had one of the finest officers ever. Rest In Peace retired Officer Pope.

Since Sunday, I've struggled to find the right words... this one hits hard.

After spending a day feeling sorry for myself, I realized Harlan would say… you can have a pity party… just don’t unpack and stay there! So I put on my big girl panties and decided to see the world through his lens… and before long, I found myself smiling and thinking of all the fun memories!❤️

Harlan had that unforgettable wry sense of humor, a sly smile, and a razor-sharp wit that could catch you completely off guard. He was a consummate investigator, a loyal friend, a trusted confidant, and someone with an incredibly kind heart. There was never a dull moment when he was around for sure!

Time spent with Harlan always left me happier than when it began. Our friendship was effortless, you could simply be yourself with him. But you also had to stay on your toes, because just when you least expected it, he'd say something so funny you'd nearly spit out your drink.

The world has lost some of its spark without him, but his one-liners, quick wit, and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him will keep him with us every day.

I have no doubt he will be watching over us all, shaking his head and thinking… did you really just do that??

Rest easy, my friend. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

From Bryan Police - congratulations to Srgt. Thomas on his recent promotion.

On Friday, July 10th, 2026, Officer Caleb Thomas will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Officer Thomas began his career with the Bryan Police Department in August 2020. He has served the community as a Patrol Officer for the past 5 years. Officer Thomas also serves as a member on the Bryan Police Department’s Tactical Response Team.

Officer Thomas has received recognition for his exceptional work and service to the community:

2024- Medal of Valor- Officer Thomas responded to a reported kidnapping where he encountered the suspect holding the victim. The suspect fired multiple rounds at Officer Thomas. Officer Thomas returned fire striking the suspect. During the encounter, Officer Thomas received minor injury from shrapnel. Officer Thomas was able to get the victim to safety who was not injured. Suspect was captured shortly after the shooting occurred and taken into custody.
2025- Police Commendation for recovery of a stolen vehicle and arrest of 3 suspects
2025-Meritorious Conduct- Assistance with apprehending a suspect who shot a BPD Officer
2025- State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award Medal of Valor
2026- Police Commendation- Night 2 exceptional work completed over a years’ time

Officer Caleb Thomas will be assigned to the Patrol Division following his promotion. Well-liked and respected by his peers, Officer Thomas brings exceptional professionalism, experience, and dedication to his new role. 💙 GOING HOME: Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, has shared that an injured lawman has been released from the hospital.

Deputy Constable Dante Zepeda was shot in the line of duty last week while responding to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in the Humble area.

"Deputy Zepeda's strength, courage, and determination have been nothing short of inspiring," Constable Mark Herman said. "While his recovery journey continues, today's milestone is a testament to his resilience and the incredible support he has received from his family, fellow deputies, first responders, and community members."

The suspect was taken into custody.

🚨PRAYERS UP: A state trooper who works here in our region has been injured on the job.

Trooper Kurt Kelm was conducting a commercial vehicle inspection on IH 45 in Leon County. While inspecting the trailer, he fell through a rotten board on the deck of the trailer.

This caused Trooper Kelm to fall, striking his face on the edge of the semi-trailer. He suffered a severe injury, including numerous broken bones in his face. He is currently in the ICU and will have a long road to recovery as several surgeries are expected.

The DPS Troopers Foundation has started a Help a Hero campaign to assist Trooper Kelm and his wife and children while he is in the hospital. His wife is pregnant with their third child. Help A Hero charges a fee up front, 100% of funds raised will go to the family.

Hey, guys. A good friend of mine, David Blackburn was in a pretty serious motorcycle crash this past weekend when a deer hit his motorcycle in Leakey, Texas. He was transported from the scene to Uvalde via ambulance. Once in Uvalde, doctors realized that he needed a higher level of care than could be given at that hospital, so he was flown to BAMC in San Antonio for emergency surgery. He's currently still in that hospital and will be for at least a few more days. In the meantime, expenses are adding up. I've been in contact with David and his wife, Laura, and they've given me their blessing to organize a fundraiser of sorts to help with the still increasing amount of expenses. In order to avoid the fees associated with crowd funding sites, we're asking that everyone just send donations to my Venmo as Friends and Family so that we can avoid the fees. Bryan Police Officer injured:

Officer Christopher Cox Promoted to Sergeant

The Bryan Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Christopher Cox to the rank of Sergeant, effective Friday, April 17, 2026.

Sergeant Cox is a 19-year veteran of the Bryan Police Department. He began his career with the department in December 2007 as a Patrol Officer. During his time on patrol, he served as a Field Training Officer for three years before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division in February 2013, where he investigated Property Crimes, Crimes Against Persons, and most recently, Major Crimes.

Throughout his distinguished career, Sergeant Cox has received multiple awards, including:

•April 2011: Life Saving Citation for preventing a subject from jumping off an overpass during a su***de attempt.
•December 2014: Police Commendation for the apprehension of a bank robbery suspect who fled the scene and crashed a stolen vehicle.

Sergeant Cox will be assigned to the Patrol Division, where his experience, leadership, and dedication will continue to benefit the department and the community he serves. Trusted and well-respected by his peers, Sergeant Cox brings exceptional skill and professionalism to his new role.
