SMA recently wrapped its bi-annual advocacy fly-in to Washington, D.C. where association leaders and member companies took Capitol Hill to advocate for the priorities that matter most to the meat industry.🥩📊

Across meetings with congressional offices and USDA/FSIS regulators, the delegation championed science-based, consistent regulatory frameworks, fair and transparent labeling standards, and stronger protections for the U.S. food supply chain.

Key discussions included opposition to Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (MCOOL), support for uniform food safety standards, ensuring a level playing field in interstate commerce, and addressing emerging threats like New World Screwworm. The group also engaged on critical regulatory topics such as label approval timelines, revised establishment sizing, and workforce retention within the agency.

It was a powerful opportunity for industry voices from across the supply chain to be heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.💼🤝

Grateful for the strong leadership, participation, and collaboration that made this fly-in a success and for the continued work advancing a safe, fair, and resilient meat industry in the USA🇺🇸
