WARNING: THIS SALSA CAME WITH A SIDE OF HEAT! ๐ฅ๐ ๐
๐ถ๏ธ
FCH Agent Dr. Flora Williams was thrilled to be invited by 4-H Agent Antoinette Morris to help teach an AMAZING group of young people how to make homemade salsa! And let me tell youโฆ WE HAD A BLAST! ๐
With Intern Paris Sanchez jumping in to help, we chopped, stirred, mixed, laughed, learnedโand apparently decided that MILD WAS NOT AN OPTION! ๐๐ฅ
These young people like their salsa HOT, HOT, HOT! ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ๏ธ
When it came time for the jalapeรฑos, they basically said:
โKeep the seeds!โ ๐ณ๐คฃ
And the seeds said, โSay less!โ ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
๐
THE SALSA LINEUP:
7 qts. peeled, cored & chopped tomatoes
4 cups seeded, chopped long green chiles
5 cups chopped onion
ยฝ cup seeded, finely chopped jalapeรฑos
6 cloves garlic
2 cups bottled lemon or lime juice
2 Tbsp. salt
1 Tbsp. black pepper
2 Tbsp. ground cumin
3 Tbsp. oregano leaves
2 Tbsp. fresh cilantro
The result? A big batch of fresh, flavorful salsa with just enough โWOW!โ to make you reach for your water! ๐๐ฅ
This is what we love about Extension and 4-Hโyoung people learning by doing, working together, building skills, and having FUN along the way! โค๏ธ
A HUGE thank you to Antoinette Morris for inviting me to join the fun and to Paris Sanchez for being such a great helper!

๐ถ๏ธ Todayโs lesson:
You can never have too many tomatoesโฆ
You can never have too many helping handsโฆ
BUT YOU CAN HAVE TOO MANY JALAPEรO SEEDS! ๐คฃ๐ฅ
Until next timeโฆ KEEP CALM & EAT SALSA! ๐ถ๏ธ๐
