Bryn Athyn Fire Company stands fully behind what Fetters Mill Fire Rescue just laid out.
We developed this staffing model. We've lived it for almost 40 years. And we know firsthand that having cross-trained, proactively staffed personnel available has kept this community safe through every staffing challenge we've faced, long before "staffing crisis" became a headline elsewhere.
To be clear: this model has never been about requiring every member to do everything. Single-role volunteers, firefighters who are firefighters, EMS providers who are EMS providers, have always been, and will always be, essential to this system. Cross-training adds flexibility on top of that foundation; it doesn't replace it. The strength of this model is having both: dedicated single-role members and cross-trained members working together.
That's exactly why we support consolidating Bryn Athyn Fire Company and Huntingdon Valley Fire Company into Fetters Mill Fire Rescue. This isn't about giving something up. It's about taking a model that already works and making it the standard for the whole community we serve, not just the piece of it we currently cover.
The path forward is the one FMFR just described: proactive, not reactive. Flexible, not rigid. One mission.
We built it. We believe in it. And we believe consolidation is how it reaches everyone in Lower Moreland Township and Bryn Athyn Boro.
