This year, Bryn Mawr Fire Company says goodbye to two of our valued members as they graduate Villanova: Nicolas Rodriguez and Brian Fox.

Brian Fox is graduating a year early with a degree in Accounting. He plans to go into law enforcement and continue serving his community. Fox has been with the company for three years and even served as Secretary of the Hoseman’s association. We will miss having Fox around, and wish him luck with his law enforcement career!

Nicolas Rodriguez is graduating with a degree in Physics. He will be commissioning as a Submarine Officer from Villanova’s NROTC program and will go on to serve our country. Midshipman Rodriguez served as a Company Commanding Officer during his time in the program. He has been with the fire company for four years, while balancing his schoolwork, NROTC commitments, and fire department service.

A little while back, several of our members traveled to the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis. FDIC is one of the premier fire service training conferences in the world, bringing together instructors and firefighters from across the globe to share knowledge, experience, and new tactics.

The conference also features the latest advancements in firefighting equipment, technology, and safety innovations, giving firefighters a firsthand look at the future of the fire service.

Each year, Lower Merion Township supports firefighters from departments across the township by funding this invaluable training opportunity, helping our members continue to grow their skills and better serve the community.

A little while back, we had the pleasure of giving an Ithan Elementary student (and five of his closest buddies) a ride to school đźš’ What a fun way to ride in style!

Fun fact: While Ithan Elementary isn’t in Lower Merion, it’s in the Radnor first-due area that BMFC proudly covers.

This past week, Bryn Mawr firefighters trained on vehicle rescue, gaining invaluable experience with a car generously donated by Sadleir’s Automotive in Wayne.

The training began with realistic scenarios, allowing members to sharpen their skills in real-world conditions. Crews then moved into hands-on work, including windshield removal and roof cuts. The focus of this training was “disentanglement” — safely removing a vehicle from around a patient who may be trapped after an accident.

A big thank you to Sadleir’s Automotive for supporting our training. If you have an old car you’re looking to get rid of, consider donating it to your local fire company. It provides critical, hands-on experience for first responders.
