⚠️ NOTICE: TEMPORARY WATER SHUT-OFF ⚠️

UPDATE 9/1 — 2:00PM: Water service has been restored for those affected.

UPDATE: Portions of Main Street may also be affected during repairs.

Maintenance crews are currently working to make an emergency repair to a water line on Lowe Street.

Water service was temporarily disconnected at approximately 11:00 AM today, September 1, while crews complete the necessary repairs. This temporary shut off may affect portions of Lowe Street.

An estimated restoration time will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while crews work to restore service.

Come out to Buchanan Town Park TOMORROW NIGHT for a FREE MOVIE presented by the Buchanan Lions Club! 🎬

TOMORROW NIGHT!!

FREE MOVIE IN THE BUCHANAN COMMUNITY PARK

The Buchanan Lions Club will present “THE SHEEP DETECTIVES” free to the public on August 29, Saturday at sunset (8:30) at the Buchanan Community Park. With renovations at the historic Buchanan Theater now underway, the Lions will show G-Rated movies numerous times over the next year.
With funding help from the Buchan Library, The Buchanan Lions, The Friends of the Buchanan Library and the Town Improvement Society, the Lions will present the movies with the coordinated help of the BOCO Parks and Recreation and the Buchanan Theater. Please support these fine organizations as they will supply your popcorn, sodas and homemade baked goodies and more!

We suggest you bring folding chairs, a blanket and bug spray. Please turn off all cell phones or leave them locked in your car. Parking is also free. Please arrive early for best seats.

We encourage all families and children to enjoy Buchanan’s fun family event evening (weather permitting).

We will also be polling the audience at the food tables for the next G-Rated showing in September. Please join us for a family fun outdoor evening of sheepish detective family fun.

🎶 THANK YOU for an incredible Reggae by the River! 🌴☀️We had such a wonderful time enjoying good company, perfect weather, great vendors, and amazing reggae music down by the river! 🌊🎶

We couldn’t have asked for a better crowd to come out and enjoy the day with us. A huge THANK YOU to our amazing entertainment, organizers, sponsors, and all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make the event possible.

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT: BLASTING ON I-81 BEGINS TODAY!

Drivers traveling through the Roanoke and Botetourt County area should expect slow rolls, brief ramp closures, blasting and delays as part of the I-81 widening project.

📅 August 27–October 22
⏰ Tuesday–Thursday | 9–11 a.m.
📍 I-81 between Exits 143–150

Plan ahead:

-Allow extra travel time
-Watch for message boards and changing traffic conditions
-Consider an alternate route
-Watch for construction trucks entering the work zone
-Stay alert and follow traffic-control signs

Slow rolls may last up to 15 minutes while blasting operations are underway.

Expect delays. Drive carefully through the work zone.

Eligible small businesses throughout Botetourt County may apply for up to $10,000 in funding to support eligible expenses, including:

• Technology and software
• Machinery and equipment
• Building improvements

Grant Overview:
• Applications are now open!
• Application deadline: October 2, 2026
• Open to eligible for-profit Botetourt County businesses with 100 or fewer employees
• Funding is limited and awards are competitive
• Grants are reimbursable following eligible expenses and required documentation

The Botetourt County Economic Development Authority intends to award at least one grant in each of the County’s five districts, including Buchanan.

🚧 BEGINNING TODAY: I-81 WIDENING PROJECT: BLASTING & TRAFFIC DELAYS

Drivers traveling through the I-81 widening project between Exits 143 and 150 in Roanoke and Botetourt counties should expect noise, blasting and temporary traffic delays beginning the week of August 24 and lasting into October.

💥 Blasting

Tuesday–Thursday
Approximately 9–11 a.m.
Expected to continue for about 8 weeks
Exact days and times will be communicated weekly
Message boards will alert drivers
🚦 Slow Rolls
Law enforcement will slow or temporarily stop traffic in both directions to provide a safe, traffic-free area during blasting operations.

➡️ Northbound: Slow rolls begin at the Exit 146 on-ramp (Plantation Road)

⬅️ Southbound: Slow rolls begin at the Exit 156 on-ramp (Troutville)

⏱️ Each slow roll is expected to last up to 15 minutes.

Plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use caution through the work zone. 🚗
