It's the first day of Severe Weather Preparedness Week (SWPW) in Georgia. It's no secret to anyone who lives in Georgia that severe weather can happen any time of the year and any time of the day, so it's important to be ready at all times. 🌩️

We'll cover many different topics of severe weather awareness this week, starting today with family preparedness and NOAA Weather Radio. 📻 We'll pick up on Tuesday with thunderstorm safety; on Wednesday, tornado safety (Statewide Tornado Drill, weather permitting); on Thursday, lightning safety; and on Friday we'll wrap up with flooding. Don't forget to interact and comment any questions you may have!

Good morning Haralson County. We made it through the weekend without any major damages to the county. We did have some trees to fall, but all in all, we made it.

We would like to thank all the public safety personnel that worked this weekend and say, Thank You for keeping Haralson County safe.

we would like to thank you the citizens, for staying home and off the roads. Together we did not have any major accidents or life-threatening calls.

Please keep this in mind when using any generator.
Also please do not hook a generator to your electrical box. This will do what's called a back feed and charge the down lines, then the power crews don't know the line is charged and it could cause injuries or death.

Good Afternoon Everyone.

We have continued to receive reports of freezing rain, snow, sleet, and power outages/downed trees occurring along with some accumulating snow so far much of north and northeast Georgia this morning. Please send us any reports you have as these help us adjust as necessary during an event - you can submit by chat, email, or phone listed below.

WHAT'S UPDATED?
• The overall forecast has had little change to expected snow and ice totals and the previous Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisory are still in effect across north Georgia until midnight tonight. A Winter Weather Advisory was expanded to include south Metro counties southwestward to Lagrange. We nudged up the snow total in the western portion of the advisory to account for some snow bands forecast to move across this afternoon and we expect little or no additional ice accumulation.

See Photos Below: Snow bands will rotate through the area most of the afternoon and begin to taper off by sunset from SW to NE as the low exits the region.

We are letting the High Wind Warning expire at 2 pm, but we have Extended the Wind Advisory for all of North and central Georgia - through 7 PM Monday. Strong NW winds are expected to move in this evening 15-25 mph sustained with gusts to 35mph behind the front.

Downed trees and powerlines will again be an issue tonight, particularly those trees with the added weight of ice.

We believe there could be a lingering black ice potential tonight into Monday morning given what falls the remainder of today and the expected sub-freezing overnight temperatures.

A Special Weather Statement will likely be issued later today.

We want to give a heads up on another system that could bring wintry precipitation to the area late-week - models have diverged a bit on that system and there is much uncertainty this far out but stay tuned for any updates
