Today, we took delivery of our new extrication tools! We want to give a huge thank you to our community for supporting us. We appreciate the opportunity to replace our aging equipment with tools that will enhance our rescue capabilities for many years to come.
We had members of Boy Scout Troop 348 attend, which is always a great chance for us to share some of the things we do.
We would also like to thank Jim's Garage Inc. for donating the cars we used today.

Lots of trees down. Be careful out there.

Congratulations to Lafayette Fire Department Recruit Class 2026-16

Last night, nine recruits officially graduated from our 14-week fire academy, marking the beginning of their careers in the fire service.

The Lafayette Professional Firefighters are proud of the hard work, dedication, and commitment these recruits have shown throughout the academy. We look forward to seeing them serve our community with professionalism and pride.

We were also honored to have Tony Murray, President of the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana, and Vice President Hank Harris in attendance to help celebrate this important milestone.

Congratulations, graduates, and welcome to the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service.

Happy Memorial Day from your Washington Township / Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department! As we honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom, we're reminded of the spirit of service that drives our own volunteers every single day.

Stay safe, and God bless those who served. 🇺🇸

Two of our members spent the weekend in Dayton, Ohio, at “Crash Course Weekend” which is a two-day class providing hands-on extrication training. We appreciate their dedication and commitment, which required them to be away from their families all weekend to sharpen their extrication skills. Thank you, Carl and Jacob!

This afternoon, our department responded to a structure fire in the Hunters Ridge subdivision. We are extremely grateful to our dedicated volunteers who left their families and homes behind to work tirelessly for the next 9 hours to help a family in need. With the support of our mutual aid partners, we were able to shuttle nearly 90,000 gallons of water over three miles to the scene. We cannot thank our volunteers and the following departments enough for their commitment and teamwork in helping us serve our community.

Lafayette Fire Station 9, Lafayette Fire Station 2, Sheffield Fire Department, Lafayette Fire Station 6, Emergency Ambulance Service, Mulberry Fire Department, Rossville Fire Department, Lafayette Battalion 10, Battleground Fire Department, Lafayette Station 3, and the Tippecanoe County Fire Chiefs Association Rehab Crew.

Thanks to one of our members’ hard work, we now have a valuable addition to our school fire safety program.

Thank you, Ed Spitznagle, for the impressive fire prevention prop that will benefit our community’s children for many years to come.

27 Calls in March

21 Medical
3 Fire
2 Hazardous Situation
1 Rescue

This is the first time we have posted runs this year due to a change in the reporting system that took effect on January 1st. The implementation of the new National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) has been a challenge. The primary groups we report receiving calls from have also changed.

If you’re interested, this site has a good breakdown of what types of runs are in those primary groups: https://www.responserack.com/neris/incident-type-codes/

Our department needs to replace our rescue tools. We don’t take these decisions lightly, and we want to make sure we get the right tools that will serve us for many years to come. Rescue tools are a significant investment by our community, and we want to ensure we understand what tools are available and which work best for our needs. Today, we invited the two most capable manufacturers of rescue tools in the country to demonstrate their equipment and to allow our members to try their tools on identical vehicles from each manufacturer simultaneously. We cannot convey how unique and effective this opportunity was for us to compare these life-saving tools. There is no doubt that both manufacturers produce excellent, capable equipment that any department would be proud to have. We are beyond grateful to everyone who contributed to this evaluation process. Subaru of America, Inc. donated two identical vehicles that allowed us to evaluate these tools fairly. We also want to thank the dealers of these tools for agreeing to simultaneous demonstrations. Both of these companies were extremely professional and made the event even more remarkable.

Thank you to our community for your support.
