Buckingham VFW Post 8446 keeping the brotherhood alive

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) is a congressionally chartered war veterans organization in the United States. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, VFW currently has 1.5 million members belonging to 7,644 posts, and is the largest American organization of combat veterans.

The Buckingham Veterans Memorial Hall is an asset to the citizens of Buckingham County. It is an affordable space to rent for family and community events alike. We do not profit from rental of the hall; proceeds from rentals allow us to keep the lights and heat on to maintain this resource for the community at large. The hall was originally an Army Field Hospital at Bryd Field in Richmond. The hall was relocated to donated land in 1948, where it stands today.

The members of VFW Post 8446 have worked very hard over the last few years to update and improve the hall. New windows and doors, insulation, siding, a new roof, renovated ADA restroom, and our latest improvement, new Heating and Air. We plan to renovate the kitchen in the coming year. Your support of our fundraisers and donations allows us to continue to serve the county by providing this affordable resource, and we thank you.

We currently have a fundraising raffle going on. Please speak to one of our members for details and tickets. Proceeds from the raffle go to the Building Fund to help us to continue to maintain and improve the Buckingham Veterans Memorial Hall.

Unfortunately, The Fishin’ Pig Farmville will be closed today due a water pipe bursting across the street from the restaurant.

As we talked about in the last meeting, the VFW magazine will be going digital beginning January 1st. If you wish to continue getting a paper copy of the monthly magazine you must call the Member Service Center at 1-833-839-8387 before October 1, 2023 to request that you continue to receive your magazine by mail. By calling you will be able to receive your monthly magazine by mail until 2028.
