***Press Release***

On Monday, August 24, 2026 at approximately 1322 (1:22PM) the Buckingham County High School’s main office received a call from an unknown male advising that he would be at the High School in five minutes to kill everyone he could. Office staff then contacted 911 immediately and our units were on scene at 1331 to secure the high school. Additional units responded to the remaining county schools as well as the Central Va Christian school to provide additional security at each location. Investigators were able to preliminarily determine that the call likely came from outside the area as a ‘SWATTING’ style call. Students were released under additional security measures and no additional threats were received.

The Buckingham County Sheriffs Office would like to thank the Virginia State Police, Buckingham County Animal Control, Buckingham County Department of Emergency Services, and Buckingham County School personnel for their assistance with this incident. Additionally, BCSO would like to thank the students and the parents of the Buckingham County School system for their patience and orderly response to this event.
